Webster - religion (one definition):
: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
I think by this definition science is a religion.
Many of us may have scientific beliefs that we think are reality. How many of these beliefs can we absolutely prove? We have these beliefs because this is what we are taught and they are generally accepted by society.
what i learnt is that nothing is exact. not even maths. at school, they don't bother to emphasize all the assumptions, axioms, and rationale scientists use. the one big plus plus is the scientists understand this, and they do change their minds - so do all of us! i don't think scientist would say any theory is a fact. they know that as long as it is helpful for us to explore about the universe, then the theory fits - and that's all they'd say - the theory fits for now - but not necessary forever.
soon, i reckon they will teach the mind training like this course as soon as they are able to learn, imagine that!
yes, i think science is a religion of sort. as long as it works!
I think science is a religion in the sense that the constantly changing ideas of science are what people are expected to belief. Most people could not prove any of the "facts" of science so the scientists become the priests. Introduce something outside of science like God or Intelligent Design and you are burned at the stake.
I am not against science. I just think we should recognize what it is built on and what it is limited to.
