Title: Frisbee competition

muttlies6 - June 19, 2006 05:21 AM (GMT)
Went to a frisbee training and competition day yesterday with the gang, in Chesterfield. A good day was had by all, about 16 dogs there, lurchers, collies and a boxer. Paul is trying to get the sport going in the UK and is thinking of arranging other training sessions. Meg, who really isn't interested in anything else, seemed to enjoy it.

Always wanted to have a go at this with Moss. Any tips on how to get started? Love seeing the vids from America where they bounce off peoples backs etc to catch the frisbee.

If you go to www.disc-dogs-uk.com this is Paul's website. He is very helpful and the site has training tips as well. When he organises the new training dates I will try and remember to post them on here and where they will be.

It was excellent and nice to try something different. Just need to learn how to throw the frisbee now!

Wow 'bout time this ended up over here, my dogs used to love mucking around with frisbees.

Why do the americans always have more doggy stuff than us? Just found a really fun looking ste called 'dog scouts of America'!

Just got an email from Paul about the next 'disc dog day' which I am pasting below:

I have another Disc Dog Day planned for 30th July at
SCONCE HILLS PARK in Newark, Notts.

This will be slightly different than the last one, for starters it won't be for charity (can't expect the sponsors to supply that much food every month), and it's unlikely there will be any prizes unless we get any donations. However it will cost £5 to enter, this is so I'll have some money to replace fencing, posts, cones etc when they need replacing, it will also mean Disc Dogs UK will have some money for if we ever have to pay for a venue up front.

Although there's no prizes, £5 still isn't bad for a days entertainment is it?

I'm not going to say I'm doing this or I'm doing that, it depends how many turn up, but we should have time to run some training and have a couple of fun competitions.

BONUS - also while we're there we'll be meeting up with Patricia, who does this in Canada (she's over nine days and is stopping in Newark) and hopefully she'll be able to help us with a few things aswell.

We're hoping to get there about 9.15 so it will be 10 to 10.30 before we're ready to start.

You don't have to say that you are coming, we'll be there learning stuff off of Patricia anyway, so I hope to see a few old faces there and some NEW ONES.

If you want to go I am sure it would be okay to turn up, or let me know with an email address and I'll forward it on to Paul.
