Mist - a sheepdog pup
**** NEW FILM ***
'Mist'
The Tale of a Sheepdog Puppy
Mist is one of three pups born at Borough Farm. From the moment that she opens her eyes she knows that one-day she wants to become a real sheepdog. But things are not as straightforward as she might have hoped. Training with the boss seems to be rather confusing and when Mist tries to impress him with her newfound skills she only gets into trouble. Then there's a bunch of gruff and grumpy rams to deal with, and an auntie who doesn't seem to always have her best interests at heart. Can Mist really learn her craft, and one day prove herself worthy of a place in the team of Sheepdogs at Borough Farm?
Featuring all the dogs of 'the Year of the Working Sheepdog' plus the eccentric new-comer Jake. 'Mist' is the world of the sheepdogs seen through their own eyes. Aimed at children from 4 to 99 years old, we hope that 'Mist' will be every bit as successful as the original film.
'Mist' will be broadcast on Channel 5, in the afternoon, on Christmas day 2006.
Due for release on DVD in the spring of 2007

ITV1 (ITV1 London)

Keeley Hawes and Ben Miles star in this heart-warming fact-based drama about a couple struggling to help their autistic son communicate his fears and begin to lead a normal life. After a two-year wait for confirmation of the diagnosis, Nicola and Rob are pushed to desperation by the demands of six-year-old Kyle's little-understood condition, and almost torn apart over how best to care for him. Loving grandparents Jim and Pat (Duncan Preston and Sheila Hancock) help the family get through each exhausting and emotionally draining day, but it's the arrival of golden retriever puppy Thomas that finally provides the key to release the child from his private nightmare. Slowly the child (played by Andrew Byrne) learns to understand feelings and respond emotionally, until Pat's unexpected death and Thomas's illness threaten to undo all the progress he's made

I watched bits of it,deff gona get it on DVD though, did someone say its gona be out Spring 2007?
Kirsty - December 27, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
I enjoyed it - although thought it was a bit "home-movieish", The Year of the Working Sheepdog is better IMO. I will still probably buy it in Spring though!!
I was nailbiting when Sir Gregory died - he is related to my Mossy-chops and the fact he has died in "real life" made it even more upsetting.

id guess that that was when he died in real life,so had to "write" it in. at least his film death was peaceful (YES i cried) unlike in real life when Mrs Kennard run him over yikes .
Lucy (Exmoor) on here ,as a greg pup. Super dog & i have another Ob friend with his brother,
i LOVED it! i loved the fact it was abit raw around the edges, esp loved Ferns & jakes Characters & the puppies!!!!!

Must admit the two bits of the film that had me reaching for the tissues was Greg dying, and also Mist's mum watching her other two pups being taken away. *sad*
As for being run over, I very nearly didn't get a chance of another pup (Bliss) from Merry's mum as Ken knocked her down with his tractor and broke her jaw about a year and a half before Bliss came along. But she got over it completely and is still working sheep. Tough critters, these sheepdogs!

Are all the dogs on the same farm in real life then? Do you know what breeding Mist is, just out of interest, stunning dog.
Katy Cropper lives down the road from me and there was an article in the paper as she is training a youngster up and hopes to do One Man and his Dog with the youngster.

I am sure the whole family were devastated by Greg's untimely death. David told me at the English National this year that Greg had been his dog of a lifetime. It's very sad. Moss and Greg are related a couple of generations back to Thomas Longton's Gem.
Are there any pictures of Lucy's dog on here? I would have loved a Greg pup!

Yes, all the dogs in the film live on David Kennard's farm in North Devon. Mist is bred out of David's Gail (who was a Greg and Swift daughter) but not sure who the sire is. It may well be one of Derek Scrimgeour's dogs as I know David and Derek are good friends and he has bought pups and used his stud dogs before.
It would be nice to see Katy Cropper on the sheepdog scene again, as I don't think she has been competing in quite a while.
ginauk84 - December 29, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
That's really nice it was filmed on a working farm and not 'staged.' I loved the prick eared collie's attitude, reminded me ever so of Cas hee hee!
Yes I did hear that Katy had time out of the sheepdog scene so she could bring up her daughter, but that was a good few years ago now. Apparently her youngster is related to the dog she won One Man & His Dog with and showing real promise. Looks a nice dog from the piccies - newspaper did the article in colour - she was honoured lol!
We go to Wales ever year and always just miss the trials over there, would like to go and watch one. Is there a website that lists them?

Best place to look is the ISDS website:
ISDS Sheepdog Trials pageThe Welsh Nationals are in early August, you'd have to leave for Pembroke a bit earlier than usual to catch them on your way.
