Folks shouldn't be scared off feeding their dogs raw eggs by the above. As the quoted text belatedly points out, the biotin in egg yolks balances out any deficit caused by the egg whites. The text fails to mention that dogs would need to consume egg whites in huge quantities to cause a biotin deficiency. For healthy dogs, salmonella should be no more an issue in raw eggs than it is in dried dog food (where it is also found).
Liver in huge quantities can cause problems, whether cooked or raw. But I wonder how many people would feed their dogs large amounts on a daily basis. It would give most dogs the most terrible runs, for a start! Mine get a couple ounces of raw lambs liver each, maybe three times a month. I wonder what quantity the text means by a 'serving'.
Finally, the very best part of the text above has to be:
"Grains should not be given in large amounts or make up a large part of a dog’s diet"
Correct! Somebody needs to pass that information on to Pedigree, CSJ, Genesis, Iams, etc. I mean, what can I say? Just look at a dog's jaw - does it look like a typical herbivore's or omnivore's - methinks not! partyyyy
(getting off my soapbox now)
That quite an eye opener.
