Title: What treats?

leanneh - August 1, 2007 06:50 AM (GMT)
HI, just wondered if you could help me with a couple of questions regarding treats.

What treats do you use for training (especially for a puppy?)

Vince loves cheese but it REALLY upsets his tummy. Not sure if it;s because it's a really mature cheese. He has cheese spread in his kong and that's fine. Do you think trying a milder cheese would make a difference or try something else altogether? He likes cocktail sausages but cheese more! He seems to really like something and then after a while goes off it.

I use hotdogs, chicken or (string) cheese.

I make Tuna cake for my 12 week old pup.

Oh I think I have a recipe for tuna cake - will have to try it. Can you share your recipe as well?

tend to use either liver cake or csj fish treats - both very smelly and loved by the dogs.

Tuna Treats
2 x 60z can of tuna in olive oil, DO NOT DRAIN
2 Eggs
1-1 ½ cups of flour (16- tablespoons)
½ tube of Garlic paste (optional)

Method
Mash the tuna in oil to remove any big lumps.
Put into a food pressure or liquidiser and blend adding a few drops of water if necessary to liquefy completely.
Pour into a bowl and add eggs, flour and garlic.
Mix well.
The mixture should resemble a cake mix.
Spread into a greased tin.
Bake in an oven 200 , gas Mark 4 for 15 minutes.
The edges should pull away from the tin when ready.
Allow to cool and then cut into small pieces.
Bag up in small quantities and then freeze until required.

Tip: We've always found a pizza cutter to be great for cutting the cakes into tiny cubes.
