Title: What do you feed your dogs?

BorderCollieLvr - January 3, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
Just wondered what everyone else feeds their dogs?

At the moment mine are having..

Natures Menu Pouches/ James Wellbeloved Pouches

mixed with James Wellbeloved Dry Food

Fish4Dogs treats twice a day and some conditioning tablet things :)

Used to feed raw food but this just seems easier and they like it and are happy.

Blimey yours must cost you a fortune with the amount of dogs you have!!!

Mine are on CSJ and do really well on it. Although if I run out, like I did at Christmas, I use Wainwrights from Pets at Home. They have pedigree joint aid treat type things, mainly because I have still got a stack left that I was give for being at Crufts last year. They also have fish skins as a treat.

CSJ here too.

I've tried a lot of their varieties and all the dogs have done great on them, although Ross for some reason wasn't struck on That'll Do.

ATM 4 of them are on Lamb Senior to keep their weight down over the winter and Kye the collie is on Fit and Fast.

Kye was really skinny (22ins at the withers and 14.5kg) when we got him so he had a bag of CP 21 all to himself. He's now about 17.5kg and just right IMO.

Hi, our collies are fed Dr John, Silver when not competing, and then are put on Platinum during the agility season, which includes, New Zealand green-lipped mussel extract and ayurvedic herbs (including frankincense and myrrh) for improved mobility and joint health Rocket Fuel & is a brilliant price at £6.58 for a 15kg bag, agree with Fly who has an easily upset stomach. Star is on James Wellbeloved but I intend to change him to Dr John when he is older.

6 of mine, including the 13 year old, are being fed CSJ Lamb & Rice. Daisy, the youngest, is being fed CSJ CP24. Jill gets a Synoquin capsule daily.

All of mine are fed Arden Grange.
Brilliant food!!!!
They look fantastic on it.

dizzy4dogz - January 3, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
mine used to be fed raw until i had a few problems they are now on csj fit and fast and the little dogs are on wianwrights puppy salmon and potatoe they also have raw breast of lamb or tin pilchards added to there dinner once or twice a week stuffed kongs with butchers if i go out and a couple of fish skin treats if i happen to be by there cupboard.

leanneh - January 3, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
Vince was raised on raw but I really struggled with it so moved him to CSJ. He was fine on this but I began to find that he wasn't that interested in his food. He didn't rush to his bowl and would sometimes leave half of it.

After looking around and asking people I moved him to the Nature diet pouches which he loves! He sits there sniffing the air like a bisto kid! lol I add some mixer biscuits but only because i have a bag to use up! He also has cottage cheese 3 times a week with it.

I put some of his meal in his kong as well to keep him busy

Mav & Flynn are on Genesis, most ob people feed it ,its really good, it is expensive ,but they dont need much so GREAT for fussy eaters like Flynn who cant cope with any Quanity.

Its peserved naturally with Vit E so dosent contain any cancerious forming perservatives.

Flynn is on Adult Dog, & Mav is on Preformance. Moving Mav onto Preformance4 really helped his concentration & attention span. It is the best food ive ever tryed.

Nellie is on Burns cos she gets too fat on Genesis!

BorderCollieLvr - January 3, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
Not sure how much it costs a week daren't work it out, sack off food lasts about a week.
Did try a mixed breeders pack type thing that the local pet food place sells but it didn't agree with all of them.

Get the pouches alot cheaper as bulk :)

dizzy4dogz - January 3, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
where do you get the pouchs from H as i still havent decided what im raising the pup on when he is home .

Chel - January 3, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
atm mine are mainly on csj's herbie rings and nuts ( as thats mainly the stock left in my garage!) holly my goldie also has the odd meal of nature diet/chappie as an extra meal, same with harv, as both have needed to gain weight recently ( holly is being tested atm for liver probs as her protien levels are ery odd - low in blood but high in urine) vet has suggested 3 meals for a while to see if she improves

not sure what im gonna feed mine on when the food runs out - dunno what is really affordable AND any good! so will keep an eye on this thread to see what others use!

Carol - January 3, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
Mine are all on CSJ. Murphy has senior lamb and the rest have herbie rings. They all also have fish oil, and Mick & Murphy have glucosamine every day. They're really well on it - I think it's really good food.

Chel, are you giving up the CSJ job?

:)

Chel - January 3, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
unfortunately yes i am, its too much for me nowadays - claire stepped in to help also but sales in this area are a bit rubbish and it unfortunatley didnt really cover the cost for itself before the month ran out:( never mind, i may still buy it in just for myself from tony, but i shall see!

We get them from a local pet superstore, but i have also seen them in pets at home, both adult and puppy pouches :)

Exmoor - January 4, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Mine were on Burns but it proved expensive so I changed to Skinners and all doing really well on it. It suits Missy better than Burns (dont need so many pooh bags!?!) There on Skinners maintenance and its £12.99 a lg bag, They stay sane but full of energy and stay in good condidtion. I give Flo chicken wings as well as she is fussey but alway seems to have room for a wing or two!

Carol - January 4, 2008 09:42 AM (GMT)
Chel, I know what you mean. I used to sell food for Oscars, but it was soooo much running around for not much money.

char - January 4, 2008 10:41 AM (GMT)
Rix and Tia are on Burns Active although Im tempted to put Ricky onto their lower active one, seeing as hes not very active and 'well covered' now :D
Bex is on Hills working as Lee has enough spare each month for Bex to have it :P

Debbie - January 4, 2008 10:50 AM (GMT)
Mine have raw meat and a holistic mixer biscuit, also veg, sardinnes, eggs and bio yoghurt sometimes.

dee dee - January 4, 2008 11:07 AM (GMT)

but then i would as we sell it

gilli - January 4, 2008 12:38 PM (GMT)
CSJ here too
CP21 for Jago, Ludo and Bob for their joints and Annie cos she doesn't hold weight, herbie nuts for the rest

madredthing - January 4, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
We're CSJ too. I used to supply but had to give up because of my job getting so much busier. I had no reason take them off it.
all of mine have CP21, although Rush is topped up with Herbie Rings

Both of mine were raised on Genesis. I used to get it from Andrew Dicker or Trish (can't remember her surname, has ob ch). But it became too much of a pain and I am too disorganised to remember to order it!!!

I have someone that trains with me that supplies CSJ so is nice and easy and he is soooo good!! Keeps a bag of CSJ in his van for me cos he knows how bad I am.

Have to say though that genesis was a cracking food. And did both of mine really well. I would go back to it I think. Just the cost is high and as I say I am too disorganised to get it!!

The Gruesomes and Aimie are on Arden Grange...The Gruesomes were weaned on the puppy version and moved through the (now defunct) Graduate and onto the Premium when they hit a year...I do occasionally give them raw chicken wings and I sometimes give them a couple of spoonfuls of Nature Diet or Wainwrights or Natures Harvest in their dry food to cheer it up a bit. They also both love raw carrots and eggs so they do have these.

They both have the Fish4Dogs Sea Jerky or ordinary Jerky or other natural treats. (I don't like them to have too many additives in their treats).

I think they both do very well on the Arden Grange...Tara could probably eat almost anything but Veda does have a sensitive tummy even to the point of becoming slightly loose whenever we open a new bag of his usual food!!!

Casiat - January 7, 2008 10:03 AM (GMT)

My lot are all on Raw, they love it.

I buy in packs of mince through Landywoods and I have an organic butcher who saves me alot of carcasses and lamb bones and over christmas they had goose too!!!

Previously though they were on Dr Johns Gold/Silver which I never had a problem with.

MadMerle - January 7, 2008 10:58 AM (GMT)
I like mine on raw as they love it so much and they do so well on it and there is not so much poop to pick up! but at the moment i am having to feed dry as it was difficult to store enough raw while moving house. I get an own brand one from a local feed merchant, its made by one of the posh companies but is just sold in clear 15kg bags at half the price. Id like to try CJS as its a good price and people seem happy with it but i dont get on with my local seller so havent got round to finding somewhere else to get it yet.

The only food i have ever not liked was Dr Johns as my dogs all hated it, even the ones that dont normally turn there nose up at anything!

Chel - January 7, 2008 11:09 AM (GMT)
madmerle, re csj, you can buy from them directly if you like aswell!
im not sure on current delivery charges, i think its minimum of x2 bags per order, try the agility stockists too, there may be some close to you you dont know of
