Title: Hyperactive Dog - What food is good.
ParkernPoppysMa - June 12, 2008 07:38 AM (GMT)
I know this subject has been beat to death but recently we changed our dogs food to Purina and have noticed a huge change in Poppys personality about half an hour after she eats.
We used to feed them Burns mixed with Pets at Home own brand dry dog food and decided to change to Purina after being assured this was better for them. B****y stupid idea - Parker our other collie has to go and hide now because Poppy turns into a nightmare, hyperactive doesn't come close she's climbing the walls and them some, barking at shadows and she won't settle at all.
Can anyone suggest a suitable food for 2 collies aged between 1yr and 18mths which is good for them but at a reasonable price (we don't mind paying more if it is good). We give them 2 meals a day - dried food in the morning and dried food mixed with half a tin of pedigree chum at night and every other day they get a beef bone fresh from the butchers.
Any advice would be welcome.

Why not Burns on its own?
I'd ditch the pedigree chum too, if you feed a good kibble there is no need to add anything to it.

We tried Burns on it's own but they won't eat it even if we mix it with with pedigree chum or gravy.
Where would i get a good Kibble from?

Have you tried CSJ? It is a working dog food, reasonably priced and when you call them and describe your problem they even send samples to see if your dogs like it :)

Ok, try something like CSJ, James Wellbeloved, umm cant think of anything else. Remember if your dog doesnt like one flavour, to try another, as it may be more appealing!

Arden Grange and Genesis are other good kibbles, if you want to add wet why not change from Pedigree Chum to something better like Natures Harvest, Nature Diet, Natures Menu.

Orijen is a biologically appropriate dry food; 70% meat, 30% fruit, veg & botanicals, no grains or artificial additives. You can get it from
zooplus. My personal unbiased opinion is that Orijen is the best dry food you can feed.
I feed my dogs a natural raw diet which works out cheaper for the three dogs I have now than it did feeding one on dry food. In my opinion raw is the best way to feed. :)

James Wellbeloved is a great food and if they don't like it dry you can get the wet pouches to mix with it, i guess it depends what suits your dog.
My lot love the denes tinned food mixed with there dinner sometimes.
