Leo is coming on really nicely with his obedience training, we've hit a problem now and i cant for the life of me stop him doing it!
He has got real issues with sitting down lol everytime we stop he has to sit down, its like an automatic thing! Im trying to teach him to "stand" which is proving quite difficult because guess what he keeps doing! If i hold him in the "stand" he just puts his weight on my arm....trying to sit down!
I am now introducing left turns into his heelwork, but he just keeps sitting down.
Have any you with obedience knowledge got any tips on how i can stop this constant plonking his bum on the floor? He's like a lump of putty lol
Have you tried doing the left turn (at slow pace) , then walking a few steps backwards? That way he won't/can't sit! :D
i'll give it a go, he's just totally obssessed with sitting down!! he's coming on really nice with everything else i just cant get these turns started properly
My dog does the same thing at obedience. We realised it was because we had taught her to sit whenever we halted and so when I did a left turn (which I did much more slowly than a right, in case I fell over her!) she would sit because she thought I was slowing down to stop.
So I'm now careful to keep the same speed and have also changed her 'left' command to 'back'. That way she takes a few steps backwards on the turn and I can't walk into her.
I've probably made that sound far more complicated than it is! Hope its helpful.
