Title: Obedience class not impressed
bonniebag - January 27, 2009 10:21 PM (GMT)
Just took ben to his first class tonight and i wasnt impressed at all....first of all there were far to many dogs there were 20 of us in a small room the trainner just showed what to do then never gave any gudiance..........plus there was a big dobermen(i loves these dogs) who just snapped and growled at every dog that went by.
at the end of the class i was dissapointed and felt i never learned anything will need to look for a diffrent class now but i think there is only that one in my area

lol mish, i was going to ask the area too so i could have a scout round :)
over crowded classes drive me nuts too, i resigned from a local club because i just couldnt get through to the comittee that its just not ok. i dropped in on the puppy class once and was astonished to see 30 pups!! the advanced class was just as bad

Stick with it. until you can find something better. Sounds as though Ben needs the socialisation, to help calm him down.
He sounds just like my Lab, she only wanted to go trainingto see all the other dogs, never sat still always wanted to be near or play with another dog, doing group heelwork (which she could do on her own), she would be the only one pulling to meet any dog that walk passed, complete nightmare. Felt like I was the only one with a nuisance dog *hide* .
She is now, 18months and is getting a lot better. She only pulls to get into the class, says hello to every dog then settles. She has just passed het Good Citizens Silver, so I am very pleased with her progress.
Dont know if you have any round your way and they do tend to cost a bit more. But I also take my dogs to a traning school which is outside. A lot of work is done on long lines, but I feel this helps my dogs more than just working in a hall.
It is more like being out on a walk, with distractions of other people and dogs.
