Title: Obedience Trainers - Midlands

BorderCollieLvr - February 3, 2009 11:43 AM (GMT)
I'm wanting to do competitive type obedience with Mist untill she is old enough to do flyball/agility etc.
I've always done puppy classes with the others which have been great but i've never got it quite right and always given up and gone back to agility lol.

This time i want to do it properly, soo does anyone know of any obedience trainers that they can recommend maybe for private lessons? Ideally in the Midlands but travelling isn't an issue really.

I still plan to do the puppy training i've always done thats 40miles away as most of the trainers there are experienced in competetive obedience.

Also any tips on things would be great!

South Derbyshire but will travel pretty much anywhere, the training classes i want to go to are in Wolverhampton roughly 40miles away.

Never knew you were in the Midlands!

I looked loads of times over the last years but most seem to be pet obedience, its hard to know which are proper competetive obedience type ones.

I know that Wolverhampton DTC are competitive Obedience, as they used to run their own Championship Obedience Show. Wendy and John Hughes take it - (Wendy has worked a dog up to Ticket - so knows what she's on about). And she's very nice.
Their number is - 01902 324823

Of course I would suggest come to me - but I'm too far, and you so couldn't afford me!!! ROFLOL!!! *nerner*

Thats where i plan to go in Wolvo i went there with all the others :) Their main training classes puppy, bronze, silver, gold are very pet orientated then you can move onto a competetive class.
I really like it there great learning environment it seems.

I want something as well as this that will show me how to teach the dog competetive stuff from being little as by the time u get to their competetive class she'll be about a year old maybe?

I can do all the pet dog stuff its just getting it perfect i always get bits wrong lol, each dog i own has broken training bits haha.

I would tell whoever takes the puppy courses - that Obedience Competition is your main aim, that way, they may train you slightly differently than pet owners. I would, if someone told me that. For instance the 'down' has to be taught as a'backward' movement, and not a 'pet' down, if that makes sense? *blah*

Yer thats a good idea :) Thanks!

Last time i went to Wolvo about 18months ago they have about 3-4 trainers who obviously have a lot of experience then a few that dont so i'll give them a ring explain i want to aim for competition obedience!

My friend goes to Coventry for competitive obedience - they started fairly recently and got involved pretty quickly in shows with a team etc. They seem to have a good time and be impressed by them
