Title: false start on season?

Gemma Wickenden - March 24, 2009 08:15 PM (GMT)
nearly 4 months ago Tinka was a bit swollen and we had one show of blood. she sat on the arm of the chair next to me and when she got up a splodge was left. she paid more attention to cleaning but it lasted a matter of days.

i planned to spay her at the end of this month but now shes gone into the whoel regalia (for week 1 anyway) shes swollen, flirting with anything male, she left a splodge on my leg where she had been sat a few nights ago and then spent aaages trying to wash it off before i realised what had happened (because i wasnt expecting it)

my other bitches are acting up too. both trying to hump her. twiglet has switched off to us totally even at training.

i'm in no doubt that this is her season but would what happened 4 months ago been a false start?

Hi Gemma

it is not uncommon for some dogs to take a while to get into a regular cycle with their seasons. Your best bet would be to have a chat with your vet to clarify the fact that the 1st could have been a very short version or a false start.

cheers dawn. i was chatting to sarah about it, it turns out one of hers was on a 4 monthly cycle while ritz only ever had 1 season a year. i was thinking about it, obviously it takes 4 months for all to return to the norm before a bitch can be spayed...... there lies the problem :(

i'm going to let her run on and see what happens. my concern was that i am contracted with the rescue to spay at 10 months but until this is sorted out i'm not going to risk a spay until her hormones are balanced.

i'm sure they will understand but i've seen some rescue peeps turn nasty over contract conditions being broken.
