Title: Mismate injection advice
Carol - March 29, 2009 12:14 PM (GMT)
My OH's tart of a sheepdog has wickedly seduced my dog, and so we need a trip to the vets (oops he forgot she was in season and put them in together doh!) headwallbash Cold showers needed all round.
Does anyone know the timing of the injection? Does it have to be more or less immediate - or can we wait until Monday?
No lectures please!
:)

If the mating has only occured once you will have to have the mismate injection on day 3 and day 5. The day of the mating is counted as day 0, so you will be fine for a day or two, but if i was you I would consult your vet on Monday.

My friend had a similar situation a few months ago, her husband 'forgot' and let all the dogs out in the garden together, it was only when she asked where they all were that he remembered and they went out to see them tied. She phoned a friend who is a vet and she said it was ok to go to the vets the next day, I can't remember on what days she had the injections, but I do know she came back in season a week or so later.

Great! Thank you both. :)

Well ...
I phoned the vets this morning and they explained that there's no rush - we can wait until her season's finished then take her in. We can take her in any time until DAY 42!!! I couldn't believe it - she'd be 2/3 of the way through the pregnancy by then - surely any puppies would be quite a size and possibly viable?????
Anyhow, she'll be going in sooner rather than later. It's still two injections but no great rush like there used to be.

they arent really viable at day 42, but would be fully formed puppies to look at, would more likely mean a c-section though doing it that way
they can abort and spay at the same time if its a little later, but i would recommend trying the jab, but keep a very close eye, harvey got trhu 2 injections!

Yes, I think my friend was told this, she could wait and see and abort at day 42 or have her spayed at the same time as aborting the puppies, but this would carry more risk, she chose to have the injections earlier rather than later too.
