Title: Palatable food for oldies wanted!
Description: Help!

I'm presently feeding CSJ to all my dogs. Murphy has the senior lamb, which up till now he has loved, and the others all have herbie rings.
I'm extremely pleased with the food, but Murphy isn't gobbling his food up like he used to, and Floss has always been a finicky eater, so I'm considering an alternative for both of them.
Murphy is nearing his 14th birthday, and has lost a few bottom front teeth, so crunching up food isn't as easy as it was, but I don't think that's the whole problem - he just hasn't got the appetite he used to. Floss is now 10, and still does some sheep work.
So .... does anyone have any suggestions that we could try? - I'm wondering whether a meusli type food would be better. I don't think I have the patience or time to do BARF properly (and crunching bones with teeth missing is going to be a problem anyway), although I have heard of some ready prepared BARF food, which I would be prepared to try.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
:)

Hi Carol - Just a thought, have you tried adding a little water to the CSJ? - Just add a little warm water it will soften it up plus adds a bit of gravey, it stinks but my Millie likes it like this and it may help Murphey with his teeth.
I have spoken to CSJ about doing this and they have told me its fine and not a problem adding water - I use the Lamb and also Champ CSJ

Hiya and thannks! Yes, I have tried wetting the food - it helps a bit, but he still has a good look at it before picking at it, as does Floss.

i was going to say water lol. when my oldie was alive i boiled the kettle - when the water was on the warm side of tepid i let her have it. the fact it was warm brought back some more enthusiasm :)

Thats what i do for Millie (and shes only 1 year !!!) only because i thought she was getting fed up with the same dry food and the water makes a kind of gravey - How about if you add a bit of meat to it? - mind you if you do it a couple of times they always will want it lol

My bitch can sometimes be a bit picky with her food. I just add a pinch of grated cheese, a small amount of tuna or wet dog food and mix it in. I only add a small amount but its enough to make her start eating and then she usually finishes the lot.
Might be worth a try.

Boomer is nearly 14 and Bertie is nearly 11, they get the raw minced meat you get in 1lb frozen blocks, they both love it, they do get some mixer biscuit in the morning and occassionally get chicken wings/carcasses which they eat no problem, Boomer is missing 3 teeth at the front and 4 at the back.
