Title: Cheryl Williams clinic

Kelliwic Border Collies - May 20, 2009 08:01 PM (GMT)

I organized and attended a clinic in April with Cheryl Williams, one of the top Open handlers here in the northeast United States. She is really wonderful to work with, and gave us some very effective tools to use in our training. Everyone had a really good time, and the weather held out for us for a lovely weekend.

Here is Bran in the round pen. She's 13 months in these pics.

I like how she's flanking out around the sheep here.

She can hardly stand herself here. I am trying to draw the sheep off her a bit to gain a little more space between her and them.

Dare waiting for our turn, or maybe (by the look of her tongue) this was during one of our turns as I paused to discuss our work with Cheryl.

Dare driving a small flock away. This was a challenge, as we were using the fenceline to help, but we weren't just holding the sheep ON the fence. There was VERY heavy pressure on both ends of this fenceline. Behind Dare is the barn where the sheep slept at night. She is also driving them into pressure at the top of the field, where the set-out pen is. So, once she gets them pushed off the barn pressure, they want to run to the top of the field to the set-out pen. It was a good challenge and I was really proud of how nicely she took hold of them, kept the pace steady, and did the job. (Small brag: Cheryl said Dare was "most improved" over the two-day clinic.)

Great pics.
I would love to try it too, but it doesn't look like I'm supposed too, the 1st time I arranged something at a local farm the shepherd left the day I had arranged to go, the farm manager said I could go back another time, but I never got to, the next time was to go with a friend a couple hours away and the person split with her husband a few weeks before, so it was the right time!!!

Thank you Teal'c.

Debbie maybe it is meant to be if you just find the right person to connect with. Keep trying, it is so worth it! (In my totally unbiased opinion of course, ha ha ha!)
