Scooby is now 8 months and this morning i received a letter from his vet saying that he is due his 6month check and that they advise he should be castrated. I am very unsure of this as he is a very lovely boy and calm, will do anything to please you and does as he is told very well.
I have the vets saying that i should and i have some family members that say i should and other family members who say dont because of how he is.
Its very confusing for me to whether i should or not or wait until he has finished growing, what does everyone else think any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

I would 100% wait untill he is fully mature not just looks wise, once he is fully matured mentally then make your choice.

It's down to you so don't buckle under what everyone else says. Vets just want your money and thats it. It's not compulsory that you have him done so wait until you think the time is right if you are thinking about it but not sure about having it done yet.

i am thinking about getting him done eventually but i just think that he is too young at the mo. I was possibly thinking about 2yrs once he has finished his growing because there are enough puppies and dogs out there that need homes so he doesn't need to add to them.
I just dont know whether it will change his behaviour or not. My brother had his lab done because he was a hyperactive dog and it calmed him down i just don't know if it will do the opposite and make scooby hyper headwallbash oh the decisions lol

I def disagree with your vets!!! Get him done no earlier than 18months, two years even better. Flynn was 5 when he was done & is still the same dog. Boy dogs should grow up & be matutre adult dogs both mentally & physically before they are done (unless there is a problem!) jmo!!!!!

I've let both my bitches mature before I get them done. Sleet is 19 months and Wren 16 months now and I'll probably have them done this coming winter whilst there's not as many flyball tournaments for them to miss.
There is a member on our flyball team and her older bitch was spayed before her first season and is absolutely fine...but I wouldn't risk that...I know somebody else who had their bitch done before she had a season and they said it ruined her completely...in fact they were so unhappy they said they'd never have a bitch spayed again. She became aggressive with other dogs, wouldn't go back when called, had to be kept on a lead etc etc...like she was stuck in adolescence all her life.
My vets mentioned about spaying once when I first took them for their vaccines as pups. They said the best time is after their first season but they haven't mentioned anything since. They send a reminder card for boosters but certainly don't harrass people about spaying/neutering.
