Title: puppy nibbling at tummy/groin
Description: what could it be?

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and would appreciate any advice on a problem with my 14 week old pup.

since we got her at 8.5 wks, she has been nibbling at her tummy and groin area...at first we thought it was where we had the really hot weather and maybe the grass was irritating her where she was laying on it as she likes to lay on her front with her back legs stretched out behind her...but she has continued to nibble on cool days too...

we mentioned it to the vet at one of her check-ups for her vaccinations etc a couple of weeks back, but he said it was nothing...but she has carried on doing it and has brought little tiny dots of blood up to the surface of her skin and her skin looks a bit bruised. she only seems to do it on this bit of skin where she has no fur.

we have treated her for fleas/mites/ticks etc and all the usual, so pretty sure it isnt this...has anyone experienced this or suggest what it could be/what we could do?

if it carries on we will take her back to the vets as her skin sometimes looks quite pink in this area like it might be sore...

thank you!

Katie

It could be something in the food making her skin a little irritable. Allergies usually manifest via the skin.

Maybe try a different food?

It might not be food but it's one possible cause to eliminate.

When Sleet was a puppy, she started nibbling her legs and paws and other parts of her body a lot and started scatching her ears violently and whining when she did. It was Earmites and they cleared up with some stuff from the vets to put in her ears. She never had them since.

How long ago did you treat her for fleas/mites etc? Is it possible even though any 'visitors' have gone there is still some irritation?

hi both, thanks for your posts - I was a bit worried about maggie as she was nibbling particularly aggressively the other day, so we popped to the vets and she said it was nothing, just like a doggie kind of acne where there are over active glands that let out grease etc and irritate her as there are hair follicles etc there too??

so anyway, we just need to bath the area frequently and it should be fine and just go on its own! so fingers crossed, as the poor little thing looks sore!
