Title: New tricks to teach a puppy

MadMerle - September 12, 2009 08:51 PM (GMT)
Roxy is 13 weeks now and ive taught her all the easy basic tricks (sit, down, paw, spin left, spin right, speak, touch a target, watch, down with head on floor) but i dont know what to teach her next... does anyone have any ideas? i clicker train her so she is a pretty quick at picking new things up.

Tinka knows both paws independantly or both together and will then either target a hand, knee or foot when offered.

i used her paw targetting to teach her to 'drum' - V.cute

cross her paws left and right, still using a visual cue though but fading it out.

run backwards from in front - now building up this trick to run back through my legs - she has 'turn' done (the half turn needed to line her up)

hows her nose targetting?

Tinka will poke my hand or hold her nose on it, roll a sweet tin, poke a cone (this is being used to build up a send away - run out to poke a cone ready for 'down')

what about your emergency down? make it fun to get a faster result. practice both coming towards you and going away.

going around an object, i'm actually using the hoover as tink has kill the hoover issues.

race to bed, i was mean.. i built this up so she would dash to her bed from another room and then i moved her bed so she had to find it before diving on it - WICKED MUMMY!!! runningdog

taking my coat off, getting the laundry out, hopping in the basket, crawl under a blanket.

the only thing i have to build up dead slow is roll over. i'm having to click every tiny extra movement round from the head. after all this time shes now on her side and looking over.

ps i understand tinks a lot older than your pup, i figured the best way would be to list some of what i taught tink as a way of suggestions.

When Skye was about your pups age she probably knew about the same tricks and I was teaching her rollover, walk backwards, go to a mat and lay down on it and go around an object on the floor.
