Title: Body Work

GET Ukrainian - February 26, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
anyone know any good body shops

my buddy who was gonna do my work quit last week, so yeah, i'm now SOL.

Here is what happened: one of my teachers rear ended my car, county line quoted damage at 690, Allstate (his insurance) is giving me a check for 650... which comes down to:
bumper: 240 dollars
labor: 130 dollars
paint 240 dollars
misc: 40 dollars

my friend said he can replace my rear bumper, repaint that and the front bumper for the 650 dollars that I recieved.

Now I'm just wondering if anyone has any hook ups so that I can get a similar deal... or get the rear bumper replaced and painted as well as get a few extra pieces painted (ie. front stillen lip and grill).

I think I might be pushing it, but does anyone think anyone will be willing to replace a rear bumper and paint for 400 dollars? lol I'm trying to spend the least possible amount of money out of my own pocket... so I was thinkin... rear bumper (online, primed) for 150 dollars shipped... brand new stillen lip 250 dollars shipped... leaves 250 dollars for paint/labor... i think i'm trying to be too cheap, haha.

got any pictures?

uh not for nothing, but if you got quoted for 690 then the insurance company should pay out at least the estimate. I think you need to look into fighting this one. Because thats not right. You should not have to go out of your pocket for something you did not do.

But I would go to Artie's Autobody in Wolcott. I can get you contact info. My family owns the place. Let me know.

Yeah Bill is right. Say you go in and the estimate from the bodyshop was $690 but Allstate says $650 and when the work gets done it ends up costing $750 the bodyshop should call Allstate and tell them and Allstate is supposed to send someone out to see the car and have the shop explain why it came out to that amount and the ins. company should pay the extra as long as it is for the work performed because of the accident.

My friend jeff is finishing autobody in two weeks up in RI. He got an award for being the best mechanic/autobody in the whole college, and had to judge some people at sometype of contest with all the teachers, but anyway I'll ask him his father has a shop in milford.

ok, so I got a 650$ check from AllState.

I'm thinking of buying a stillen front lip with my own money, and than i hope that i'll find a shop that will replace/paint the rear bumper AND install and paint the front lip for the 650 dollars, so the only thing I have to pay for our of pocket is for the lip

Suicidalspd99 - March 13, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
You need to get a quote and have Allstate pay out to that. Idk why you just are gonna hope someone does it for 650 when the insurance should be paying out what a quote is.

i'm hoping someone does EXTRA work for the check that they gave me. I know I can get just the rear bumper replaced for the amount Allstate paid me, a few body shops quoted me at 600-650, 690 was the highest quote from Miller Nissan. Like I said, I'm hoping someone paints a few extra pieces (which weren't included in the damage) for the price that Allstate paid me, ie front lip, haha.

Why don't you just go to a body shop have them paint both and you put them on? That way you are paying about 3 hours labor to prep both and that is generous. Then you pay for paint and supplies plus paint labor which should be no more then 1.5 hours. And at insurance rate I believe the most they can charge for labor is like 50 or 60 per hour. So 4.5 hours at 60 equals $270. So I would say if you install yourself you should be able to buy the lip and have both painted for what you got. Just gotta install yourself which isn't hard.

if its a insurance claim they will not let you install your own items. i know this from my families autobody. It's one of them insurance things. But good luck with what you wanna do. Should look sick.

considering i already cashed the check, i can do anything i want with the money, haha

Well even if he didn't cash it, they have absolutely no control over what you do with the money. You can go to the casino with it and they couldn't do anything. For all of the times my car got hit I have never once just fixed what was wrong. Your car gets hit and you get paid but if the car isn't with the money to you then you pocket it with no questions asked.

when i got rear ended i paid for a new tranny instead of fixing my bumper

Suicidalspd99 - March 15, 2007 04:56 AM (GMT)
