Title: Problem I Am Experiancing...
Description: misfire/hard start
95max327 - January 8, 2009 02:10 AM (GMT)
ok so i bought a 95 maxima se, when i bought it i knew it had problems but i got it cheap and its in really good condition. its hard to start 1/2 of the time.. sometimes i turn key it starts runs fine. sometimes i turn key it cranks then the cranking kinda slows down and sounds funny then it cranks like normal but it doesnt start and if i give it a little gas it fires up i sent it to the shop because of a misfire it had. fixed it with a coil pack. well now out of no where i start it up and it sounds like a subaru sti minus the turbo.. it sounds grumbly and has no power but after about 30 seconds it stops and is fine. im just lost on where to start.. i dont know if i have a sensor problem? coil pack? electrical issue? im lost and need help!! please if anyone has any ideas where i can start..
thank you very much - Anthony

Is the Check Engine Light on? I would clean the throttle body, change the air filter and spark plugs.

brand new stillen intake and filter.. and brand new NGK plugs. the last plugs were like bosch in the front and original ngk's in the back.. it has 124,000 miles. do you think maybe timing? check engine is on, i checked it and it told me cam sensor, replaced it and never reset the code yet
hybridioN - January 8, 2009 03:56 AM (GMT)
have you replaced your maf sensor?

no.. i am actually looking to buy a Z32 maf though if you know anyone who may have one!
but i dont think the maf would do that, wouldnt the maf make the car want to stall and run like shit constantly? not just when u first start it up..
i thought about the fuel pump too maybe? :(

Sounds like a coil pack. I know when I forgo to plug one of my coils back in it sounded like a suby. If you have a SeS light, get it checked out and it should tell you which cylinder is not firing.

i was thinking coilpacks, but you said you replaced it...unless it wasn't put in properly. maybe it's bad gas?

im going to check that tomorrow, make sure all the coil packs are plugged in. its only when u first start it though for like 30 seconds its not misfiring the entire time is on. bad gas is a good possiblity the guy i bought it from sad the car sat for a year, supposively he changed the gas but i put 20 bucks in 2 months ago burned it out put 20 bucks in again yesterday and drove all around, im down to a half tank now so the old gas from him and me 2 months ago is long burned. i have checked fuses to see if maybe something was wrong there but nothing.. im going to check coils and plugs tomorrow and take off the maf and TB and spray clean it and maybe ill get lucky!
95max327 - January 8, 2009 09:48 PM (GMT)
i checked the coil pack connections, they were all plugged in. i cleanned the TB but it was already pretty clean. i checked all connections everywhere. seemed fine. well it ran good today like a nissan maxima should! and then around 2 pm it started acting like a subaru again, misfiring and slow (sounds good, but doesnt run good) so now what ever the problem was it is now fully the problem. it must be a sensor because sometimes it would run fine and only when i started it would it run like a suby but now it runs like a suby whenever i drive it. =( someone from CT interested in meeting up with me one day and listening to this thing????

well i found out the misfire problem.. its the coil pack my mechanic JUST replaced.. is it possible my wire harness is bad and making the coil packs go bad or can it be that he got the part from advance auto parts and the part is just defective shit??

the coilpacks are very sensitive, especially on DE-K motors. i have a whole set just for extra replacements...though, down the line if you ever need work my man bill (suicidalspd) is a top-notch mechanic..he's good for just about everything on the car, and will do mod installs.

cool.. sounds good. i like to do my own work, but i never have a problem with getting a second opinon or an extra helping hand. we gotta get a big group together sometime and hang out at the pike and just chat in person.

We could do a winter pike night.
Also if you need work done. I have a shop with all the things one might need.
As for the coil pack. Bring it back. More than likely it is a rebuilt pack and is defective.

sounds awesome! i can sure use a shop especially with the cold ass winters we have in CT and the snow that were getting soon is lookin bad. yeah we have to set up a winter pike night and get some pictures. also if any one needs tires i got a friend who works at townfair.. i can get some good deals if you pay cash, i can get the tires for what the store pays, you pay no tax, and free mount and balance.

i did the coil today, hasnt misfired on me yet! i went to advance (brother works there) got the obd2 scanner erased the codes and my car started up a little better, but it also had been still kinda warm.. but ive read up on it and i found out its either 1 of 2 things, i need to ground my starter or its a timing problem. so next decent day im going to grab some 8gauge and wire it up and see whats good from there!
95max327 - January 11, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
started misfiring again last night while i was out in the snow.... now this morning i started it up and drove it around and it ran like nothing was wrong, no check engine light nothing, i scanned it anyways no codes came up, but i dont know how to check the wiring for the plugs and i dont know what im looking for?? any locals have any expierance on fixing coil pack wiring and willing to meet up and give me some help?!
Suicidalspd99 - January 14, 2009 05:44 AM (GMT)
make sure the ground wires on the top of the timing chain cover are not corroded. seen those cause a issue one time.

Suicidalspd99 - January 15, 2009 03:00 PM (GMT)
any surface that can be used as a ground.
95max327 - January 15, 2009 04:04 PM (GMT)
is the tranny ok? or the bell housing?
Suicidalspd99 - January 15, 2009 05:37 PM (GMT)
bellhousing should be ok.
95max327 - January 15, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
can i ground the starter using 4gauge from a starter bolt to the negitive terminal?
Black Maxima - January 15, 2009 10:26 PM (GMT)
Try the engine block to make the ground as short as possible.
