Title: I Need A New Muffler Or Something....

98greenmax - May 22, 2009 01:45 AM (GMT)
yep i need a new muffler or whatever it is lol under the car my dad said it was a resonator??? idk tho but its not good to have a lowered car and a muffler thats falling off.....

Black Maxima - May 22, 2009 02:16 AM (GMT)
Could be any component under there. What part of the car is the noise coming from? You will hear a "hissing" or an air leak noise where ever it's rusted.

98greenmax - May 22, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
well i know i got a hole cuz my dad showed me where it was and its very big and its mad loud from the whole uh...... and it scraps everytime i hit a bump or something idk what it is tho

Black Maxima - May 22, 2009 04:35 PM (GMT)
Is the whole by the rear bumper or towards the middle of the car?

Sounds like a good time for a nice new cat-back system. They have some good deals on Ebay. Check this out.
stainless catback

the hole is in the middle of the car

KamberB - May 23, 2009 03:45 PM (GMT)
Wow that is a nice Catback for that price.

alloutnissan - May 23, 2009 08:43 PM (GMT)
that IS a good price, damn.. is that good quality though? i sometimes hear bad things about parts people get on ebay..

Black Maxima - May 24, 2009 02:12 AM (GMT)
If it is in the middle of the car, you should buy a brand new cat-back exhaust set-up. However, you can go to an exhaust shop and probably get it fixed for like $40...

Looks like it will be pretty loud and raspy especially if you have/add a Ypipe. Plus its $110.00 for shipping. Why not just save a little more and buy something proven? Or spend the same amount or a little more and have a local shop make one.

Black Maxima - May 24, 2009 11:10 PM (GMT)
Yea, that exhaust would be louder than what you have now AND more annoying!

Have you ever ridden in Al's car? he has one of these and it isn't loud or annoying. Looks like a really nice piece too. I plan to get one for myself.

Ya I must agree; I listened to it today and it sounded really nice actually. When i heard it was the ebay one I was like holy shit thats sick and its a good a$$ deal.

Zach95SE - May 25, 2009 02:13 PM (GMT)
Does he have a Ypipe?

Y-pipe and manifolds are stock on both cars

That is why it may still sound good. Maybe I will be wrong, but it definitely looks like it will be very annoying and raspy with a Y. You will hear a lot of the bees in the can noise.

Personally if I were the original poster, I would just have that piece fixed and buy a Ypipe if he wants some performance for the money. Just have a shop fix that piece or put a new piece in if its rotted out. The catback isn't going to do anything for performance.

98greenmax - June 20, 2009 06:53 PM (GMT)

:o Yikes! I could of have done stock exhaust and brakes for $150 including parts and installation. Even if I did a GRetty or Stillen exhaust it would still be less than half what you payed. Where did you go? Sounds like you got the Monroe TOUCH
It must be nice to be rid of that exhaust drone though. That car is really shaping up.

98greenmax - June 21, 2009 12:30 AM (GMT)
Well.... I got STRUT MOUNTS cuz SOMEONE didn't tighten the bolt and I ended up payin like 200 to 300 for mounts cuz someone didn't tighted them so I'm not gonna let anyone else touch my car!

95max327 - June 21, 2009 01:59 AM (GMT)
sounds sketchy.. strut mounts are 50$ each, i just bought 2 when i did my kyb's.. exhausts are known to be expensive.. but 1400 and its stock sounds high, but you prolly have a cali spec with an extra cat or 2 or something

Both strut mounts? I wish you let me fix it when it first started to rattle weeks ago. I can't believe both mounts failed. I could have fixed them for free :( Hate to see people spending extra money. If there's anything I can do let me know.

95max327 - June 21, 2009 05:05 AM (GMT)
in the future, come on this forum or the maxima.org and check out prices and get estimates from max owners/mechanics.

98greenmax - June 21, 2009 12:47 PM (GMT)
Yeah idk bout people I don't know touching my car anymore I still need the strut mount in the back but its fine for now.....

95max327 - June 21, 2009 02:37 PM (GMT)
i agree with you on that.. but ive always done my own work to save money and to learn how to do it so if im ever stranded somewhere i can possibly fix it on the spot or whatever. i always have my trunk full of tools.

98greenmax - June 21, 2009 09:13 PM (GMT)

ok... there you are...

I feel you... It's hard to find ppl that know what they are doing & are not tryna fuck you on price..

it's part reason i bought a nissan in the 1st place... my boy *who owns a shop. Specializes on japan-made cars... He hates German cars and I once had a Jetta. i was gonna go back to one or an Audi & he urged me not to.

95max327 - June 24, 2009 12:05 AM (GMT)
ohh i see... well thats understandable.. you dont have anyone in your family who knows about cars?! or any friends?? maximas are pretty easy to work on to be honest..
