Title: My Max Got Hit By A Caddy!

bryan163 - June 10, 2009 05:18 AM (GMT)
I was waiting at a stop light today when, without warning, a Cadillac Elderado rammed me from behind! It was a good hit. I never heard or saw it coming so it snapped my head back violently and pushed my car into the intersection. The 60ish year old woman driving the caddy said she was looking to see if a shop on the side of the street was open and not at the road. She never even stepped on her brakes!
There's not much cosmetic damage, but the bumper support is pretty bent and the trunk doesn't shut tight anymore. I think the whole bumper is pushed in a little because my exhaust tip looks like it sticks out further past the bumper now.

Damn man that sucks... Did you have the cops come at all and write up a report? I would go to the hospital get checked out for the neck and complain of lower back pain then take here to small claims court get some more money for upgrades :)

also get your car fixed up through insurance (hers of course) since she hit your back end. Hope that cops got her "look at a store" statement down, lol....

Yeah, I called the police and filed a report. she admitted it was her fault. I have to have a claims adjuster look at the damage before I'll know how much money they're gonna give me. I will probably keep the money and fix the damage myself. Maybe I'll get the whole car repainted.

I have a repair estimate scheduled for friday morning. I let you guys know what what comes out of it. I've been thinking I'd like to spend the money on some light weight wheels. I already have everything payed for on the turbo project. It was supposed to be getting installed the day of the accident. I was on my way to the auto parts store to pick up some o2 bungs for my down-pipe when I got hit. Now I gotta wait till this weekend.

Damn that sux... So close but yet so far away now. At least it'll get done soon and thats what matters. And that fact that your ok is a really good thing as well.

I got the estimate done at madison auto body. They said it would be $1010 for what he could see, but he would have to leave it open for further repairs and cost once they get into it. I don't know what this means for my settlement since i will be doing the work myself. I will be calling the insurance company on monday.
I didnt notice before, but the passenger rear quarter is actually pushed into the passenger rear door so they now rub when the door opens or closes. I'm gonna have to pull the back end back out, probably with a rope and my truck.
If the insurance company doesnt offer me at least $1500 I will probably seek a new estimate.

I would say she was going 25 mph, give or take. It was enough to distort the unibody. My neck was a little sore the following day, but that's about it.

Time for a new car!

No way. I'll get it straightened out.

Suicidalspd99 - June 15, 2009 05:23 PM (GMT)
I bet 4k in damages. Check strut towers. Since the door rubs, I bt i mount might be off now. Just take it to a good body shop.

4 G's sounds nice. I wish you could do the estimate. I'm getting a second opinion. I figured it would be at least worth $1500. I'm sure the strut tower a little off, but it still goes down the road straight and I should be able to get it pretty straight with a few well place frame pulls with my truck.

Zach95SE - June 16, 2009 02:37 PM (GMT)
I'd go grab some more estimates. $1100 is too low. I would guess it is actually between $2000-3000.

If it's any indication, I got $1100 for my front bumper getting dented up.

ProjectNissan6 - June 16, 2009 08:01 PM (GMT)
DAaaaamn There's nothing you could have done! Sorry about your car... Your life is more important... Is it an easy fix or are you going to get a new car?

ProjectNissan6 - June 16, 2009 08:02 PM (GMT)
i'd get a new car

I will be keeping the car. I'm still waiting for a second estimate to see what kind of settlement I can get.

bryan163 - June 24, 2009 01:57 AM (GMT)
The claims adjuster from the insurance came to give me a second estimate. This time it was only $950. This seems low to me, but I'm not sure what to do about it. I figured it was at least worth $2500 after seeing that the body was distorted enough to let the rear passenger door rub on the quarter panel. Anybody have any good ideas how to deal with insurance companies?

I hope you showed him what you just stated above this post.

I hope you showed him what you just stated above this post.

I wasn't home when he came to look at the car, but I did brief him on the damages over the phone the day before the estimate.
