| Server 13 is back online. The good news is no board data was lost. However, some uploaded attachments are currently missing. We were able to restore many attachments from a backup we had taken. I am still working to see if the rest of the attachments can be recovered. We have completely replaced server 13's hardware, so server 13 is now a completely fresh machine. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience of the downtime and loss of attachments. Did I lose any posts or members? No, all board data is intact for all boards. Board data includes members, topics, posts, settings, PMs, etc. However, some boards may have lost some or all uploaded files. How InvisionFree Will Help All server 13 boards will have their free upload space upgraded to 32MB. Any boards on server 13 that have paid for disk space may request a refund (no fees will be charged) for any active space if we are unable to restore all uploaded files for the board. What will InvisionFree be doing to prevent this from happening again? 1. Most of the downtime was waiting for the datacenter to replace a broken software component. We have removed this component from Server 13 as well as all other InvisionFree servers. 2. We will investigate whether the datacenter took longer than it should have to get server 13 back online. If we find that they took longer than necessary, we will take this into account when purchasing new servers. 3. We will speed up our research into systems that will allow for the rapid replacement of failed servers. There are several promising ideas and we hope to have one implemented shortly. 4. We will add an attachment backup feature to InvisionFree 2. This feature will be free to use and will let you regularly download files that have been uploaded to your board. 5. We have added and will add several new company policies to further prevent service outages in the future. Thank you for your patience during this extended downtime for server 13. |
