any of you that have audio knowledge please step up:

I recently went to a place to shcedule my remote car starter install, and he saw my HU, asked me what I'm running. I told him I'm running 2 10" MB Quart PWE254 powered by a JL e1400D. Right away he looked at me like "what are you smoking?" He said that the amp I'm running is not pushing enough juice to even unleash half the potentials of the subs since they are 400RMS each and I'm only pushing 150 max to them or something like that, like I said, I don't get audio stuff.

Anyways, he wasn't trying to sell me anything since he doesnt even carry JL but he recommended that I go with either a JL 500/1 or a 1000/1 amp.

What do you audio gurus recommend?

a JL 1000/1 costs a little bit too much for my budget and I'm lookin at a used 500/1. or is 500/1 still not enough to push my subs?

Why do you like JL so much?

Have you tried/looked at other brands that are cheaper and prolly better?

Yeah JL 1000/1 is good but way too much money for me. I would do what Sunny said and look at some other brands. I have an MB Quart RAA1000 and it hasn't let me down yet. 1000 watts at one ohm so its got the power there if you wire everything right and when I picked it up the price was like $350 on clearance. If you can find one pick it up.

First does it sound good/do what you want? If so then fuck what that guy said and keep what you got. He was def trying to sell you something I dont care what he sells or doesnt sell.

well at first I just wanted something that will give some thump inside the car and thats it... now i want it to be a little bit more on the show-off side, where people can hear it even outside the car.

also im starting to feel like i wasted so much money on the MB Quarts and not using them to their full potential, so that's what I want, something that will power them to the fullest, hence I dunno if i need a 500w or 1000w amp.

and i want to keep it a JL amp because I have a JL 300/4 powering my front stage and I'm planning to build a more of a show trunk and I want the amps to be same brand.

Um your box also makes you have good sound. I did not have a big amp and I hit real hard with my box.

To be completly honest with you ditch those subs and get something thats more efficient and made to get louder, those subs are garbage. I wont ever recomend you get something made by JL either unless your looking at the w6v2 and can get one cheap.

If you really want to get loud look into a new sub. I dont know where you heard that that amp only puts out 150 watts. What do you have your subs wired dow too? The amp does 240@4ohm and 400@2ohm. In my opinion I think you need better subs not a new amp, I could name a bunch that will rip the doors off your car with 400 watts.
