Title: Manual of the Dozenal System

| It's why y'all aren't talking about the hey-daddy-o Manual of the Dozen System produced here by the DSA - it's so square you can't read it. |
Why aren't we all talking about this? It's great!
That is, it's exactly what someone would need when he's been convinced about the superiority of the dozenal system but still thinks in decimal. It provides basic overviews of the arguments regarding dozenal superiority; explains conversions, multiplication tables, and such; and explains how one is to talk about dozenal numbers. (Though when I read about gros and emos, I don't understand how anyone can object to TGM's system on grounds of aesthetics.)
Has anyone updated this manual for the substantial changes that have occurred since it was first published?

Dan,
MODS is good. I think it's a great primer. It needs pics. (I am an image guy, but now time-poor).
I would update it but wow make it more live. It ain't even break dancing, if you know what I mean. It's so hey-daddy-o that it's completely square EVEN for us number base and system of measurement nerds. Heck it still says "to-morrow" like in days of yore. Some of the words don't even mean the same thing as they do these days. I think that, in 1960 when it came out, it was still "On-The-Road be bop a ree bop" Kerouac style, pre-Elvis style, so yesterday. (Hmm maybe I go too far). Point is, ideas are good but presentation is EVERYTHING, especially in this decadent era. MODS needs to be more mod, nonetheless.

Would anyone be interested if I were to update this?
Obviously, lots of the decisions to be made would be controversial. The nomenclature of mos and gros strikes me as aesthetically displeasing, not to mention completely unused by anyone. (I haven't met anyone that uses it yet, anyway, to my knowledge. Anyone want to enlighten me?) It makes some suggestions for measurement that I don't think have any support beyond the volume itself. What nomenclature and system of measurement would replace it would clearly be the subject of some dispute. For myself, I'd use Pendlebury for both; I'd be happy with either Pitman or Dwiggins characters, but Pitman are what I have easily at my disposal.
A good chunk of it, however, it still great even without extensive modification. Get rid of the typewritten look of it, spruce it up with some figures and such, get rid of some of the pre-computer tables (what need is there, really, for trig and log tables anymore?), and it'd be a great dozenal primer. Anyone care to see this done? I'd hate to do all the work if no one were going to use it.
By the way, wasn't the publication date 1960? A bit late for the fifties jargon, isn't it?

don,
DSA issues MODS to every new Member and every inquiry. It'll get used.
If you want to team up I'd lend a hand, have mathematica, autocad, adobe. I could build the figures for you.

Really? I haven't gotten one yet. Then, I haven't heard anything at all regarding my application.

Absolutely. I've got a few figures worked up already, just out of fun, but that's definitely the area I'd need the most help in. (I'm quite skilled with digital typesetting, but not so much with graphics.) We'll coordinate via email.

Dgoodmaniii, we'll get one to you. Will correspond via email. Need your address. I've got the packets for distribution during winter, maybe the distributor didn't get the message. as a Member you should have the packet.
BTW I made an error: the Manual of the Dozen System (MODS) was sent to me, but the packets I have don't have MODS. If we produced MODS we'd certainly distribute it. It stands to reason that someone who joins the DSA should have the Manual of the Dozen System. Can have a few printed here. Printer is across the street. Need to run that by the board, but I'd offer to donate to pay for the run. I think I have two vintage copies, so I'll see and then include one in your packet.
Then you can sing "hey daddy-o, do re mi, la ti da, be bop a ree bop, golly gee willikerz, heavens to betsy, say, oh you do, do you" just like the rest of us. (Man MODS was written before the "space age!", I guess before "far out, man!" Rock'n'roll, westerns, and the bikini were risque...lol. Heck, jazz was risque. "hit da road jack"...think of that every time I pick up MODS.)
