Album Reviewed: Where Lovers Mourn Full-length, 2003

I decided to review this album on a track by track basis. I hope you enjoy my review.

1.The Cry of Silence. 12:44
The first track begins and its no surprise, a deep slow doom guitar intro. Beautiful and evil all existing together
In a blissful melody. A male voice (nice doom vox) starts out slowly as if reading from scripture. A delicate and
flowing female voice blends into the feel of the music. The Male vox blended with the female vox give this song a real
deep feeling. Absolute Gothic bliss, very tragic. 9 Minutes and 15 seconds into the song there is an abrupt pick up of
tempo which kind takes you by surprise then as quickly as it picks up, declines back into a slow doomish tempo.

2.Silent Winter. 4:59
This track blasts out of the starting gate with a much quicker tempo and pretty in your face male growly vox Complimented by
a angelic sounding female voice (Lisa Johansson). Although this track changes tempo a little, its not near as dramatic
as the first track.

3.A Slumber Did My Spirit Steal. 4:11
WOW, this song blew me away at the opening, I had to listen to this track multiple times. A powerful and tragic
female voice explodes from the beginning only to be accompanied by the male growly vox. With multiple tempo changes
and a feel of great tragedy or importance, this song is by far one of my all time favorite gothic songs.

4.The Solitude. 7:56
Another powerful and tragic entrance this time with the male growly vox. I guess my only complaint about this song
is the stretch to many different musical instruments, possibly its the violins on this track that bother me.
The doomy guitar riffs hold steady and the vocals are purely awesome. About 3:50 into this track comes a nice smooth
guitar solo, but in this reviewer’s opinion isn’t long enough.

5.Reversio Ad Secessum. 7:33
Ahh yes, a wonderful doomy feel to this song straight from the beginning, some reading going on by the male vocals,
then blending into a nice chorus with the female vocalist. My favorite part of the entire song is the acoustic
guitars that go nicely with the melody, adds a nice touch in my opinion. The piano accompanies the flow rather nicely
as well.

6.The Amaranth. 5:22
Well I cant say that I care much for the beginning of this track. The male vocals are much better on this track than
the females, the tempo and sound just make this track too trendy for me, I need more doom for my taste. Definitely
a low point on this album in my opinion. The track slows a bit to bring more of a doomy feel back but by that time
it is too late, the trendy upbeat sound has already ruined what could have been a good song.

7.Akherousia 2:34
This song starts out almost like "folk music" with acoustic guitars, piano and an angelic female voice. Ahh the
male vocals come in as a whisper reading a poetic sonnet. Although a nice piece of composition, I really thought it
was out of place on this album. Almost felt like I needed to riverdance a bit (LOL).

8.It Grieves My Heart. 07:30
Hell Yes, now that is a great intro for a song, nice build up to great doom sound. I really enjoy the slow guitar
riffs going on, it gives you a floating feeling. The mix again of the female and male vox are as outstanding as in
the other tracks. Some more ghoulish reading goes on and adds a nice touch fading into a powerful male rant. God Damn
this song is fucking awesome, I will definitely add it to my "play again list"

Noah's Overall rating is a 91/100. The female and male voices mix well together. I would have to say a couple of the
tracks didn’t seem to belong with the overall feel of the remainder of the album. I would also recommend this album to
those who appreciate gothic and doom music. if you are new to either genres of music, give this album a listen to..it
will show you a brief glimpse into gothic metal.
