Title: Shotgun Poetry
Description: quietly blasting away our minds

Wisdom - January 8, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
Um... I wrote 13 poems last night. Alanna and I had a poetry slam until 3 AM. These are all unrevised, exactly as I wrote them down. Some are happy, pensive, sad... one's really disturbed. Anyway, I hope you like them, and REALLY want imput, if even on just one! I call them Shotgun Poetry. Enjoy!

Trails of Light
----
The moon in her eyes,
the sun in her step...
she dances across the galaxy,
each note of laughter alighting upon a star

a brief flare of starlight
two lovers see below
take it as a sign,
the laughter of a girl.

Can you say "Glory"?

light she leaves in her wake,
blacker then black hair shaming the cosmos
for even there
starlight s

Can you say "Glory"?

The sun cannot...

She struck it dumb.

-----------------------

Sobbing Gunman
----
Hickory dickory dock!

With a smile and a nod
he strides smoothly out

devastation behind him
and everyone smiles, blind

in the middle of the corridor
an amber spider hangs
weaving an emerald web

While the dormouse watches
sadly...

can we cry?

of course not...
that'd be silly
and the dream calls for
solemnity supreme

leaning against the door,
the smiling boy collapses into sobs.

------------------

Aphorism
----
if a tree falls in a shopping mall
and no one hears it over the din of the crowd...

marijuana smoke trails
vo

around her cheeks
and she smiles vacantly
vaguely wondering why...

your eyes just ran me through

when I imagine there's no heaven...
things just go awry

somebody show me which way to a bookshop
i need the smell of love and ancient paper

its guard is a 20 year old boy
high effeminate voice modest

when the hallucinations subside
what's left is ashes and playing cards

does it make a sound?

------------------------

New Addiction
----
how many times can we write about drugs and sex before they lose potency?

Let's test the limits.

breathing in the daydream
salty sea air carrying it's

own

glorious

disease.

"Aw, shit..." we say.

vulgarity mingling with the lofty
theories
bringing them low, so we don't feel so old.

are we old? or has
sophmorism set in
our eager lexicon

S

  pping through my treacherous thoughts...

that's what I get for trusting myself again

--------------------------------

Snapshot
----
Drinking honeysuckles to take away
the scraped knees and rough palms...

Angsty songs release...
Do twelve year old girls have inner demons?

Singing, dancing cause we wish we were beautiful.
We wish we were poets

Drinking bitter gin
to drown the pain in buzzing oblivion

looking in her eyes and pretending
the love... it's still there, it must be

it's just lost.

Dying really isn't so bad.
It's being born that scares me.

-----------------------------

Heavy Woodlands
----
Wanna taste my energy?

It escapes me.

Circular thinking
preying like a
vampire
on this free-flow chessboard

I drop in to say "ermine satire"
And you nod politely

It's a dismissal I can't tolerate.

But your house is made of bricks

and I'm no wolf.

---------------------------

Clearwater
----
I love you.

You can't love me best until I don't

define catch-22...

When the shallow-tide sky comes in
and washes over my feet

a tranquility bathes me
puts out your fire
and quenches your thirst.

Morning comes soon,
and the fires of sunrise.

but now... just for now...
the moon goddess envelopes me
in a sweet, clear, cool embrace

-----------------------------

Goodnight, jackknife
----
Goodnight, jackknife.

sleep well... i know you will
you always do.

I should worry about my own dreams...
I'm chased through the white darkness.

haunted by the day i hilted you.

-------------------------------

Julie
----
May I see you today?

I bet you're smiling.
That'd be nice to see.

Usually you sound so melancholy.

Prosy-prosy, pick a rosy...
pick a daffodil.

I brought you flowers today,
nothing fancy, just some I found

on the way over.

a bee stung me

but i was brave because
the flowers were for you.

I hope you're doing ok...

May I see you today?

----------------------------

Bladebreaker**
----
Two demons in steel
with a grunt and a flash collide.

frosty eyes hiding firey souls behind

chain
 link fences.

thrustparrycoupdegrace

Breathing heavily, each pant rising

visibly from flared nostrils.

A hiss.

she watches in the cold rain, impersonal

one host, dead from unrequited love.

--------------------------------

Glint
----
Dancing with a straightsword
in a lightblue Arabic gown

the village boys gather to
watch her
as she moves,

feet just tapping the dust.

the last time I danced
i f

   l
    l
      facefirst into the
mist.

leaving trails of starlight behind her,
the irish girl moves.

her blade merely
a mirror

She is doubly beautiful in his eyes.

-----------------------------------

laureate
----
The moribund poet can't understand why

he's so afraid of a line.
To conquer his fear
of a complete sentence,
he hacks it to bits.

Why is he writing, anyway?

Why does he spurn food for ink,
water for parchment,
sleep for the sound of a scratching quill.

He knows not

but each morning,
he arrives in the throne room
pale and emaciated,
slender hand desperately
clutching
  creased
     parchment
below his wan, thin smile.

Reading, his creaky voice
tremulously seeking approval.

Each morning, the queen smiles vaguely
She bids him take leave.

wan smile slipping,

descending to his tower...

these days... the courtiers barely notice him

-----------------------------------

Alpha
----
if, when you daydreamed,
the world let you be
might you never wake up?

eternity in a lover's kiss,
forever in control,
infinate time to ponder divinity
and your small role.

let me be

i mastered the world one day
the galaxy, the cosmos, the universe
was my plaything

drumming my fingers on the table,
a star at the end of each one...
and a comet followed the trails that my
lazy, omnipotent eyes
left on the pale green wall.

colors swirled through my mind
and my people were saturated
One shade of red,
the whole world falls in love,
just a bit darker...

war

my aphrodite morphing into a blood goddess

a single song coursed through my head
celestial music
following the refrain of a
miracle
drug.

have you ever been a god?

I was, until my sister jostled my elbow.

And, as always, I love your poems! They all have such an unusal movement in them, it's almost like you're reading them in a dream.
