I usually make the 1px. But if i like to be more detailed a white 1px boarder then a 1px black one :)

I use fill and then put the fill to like 37% with 1px stroke

Sometimes I don't put a border, but if I do it's usually 1px.

1 px black and 2 px white one, I think that looks really effective
