This tome seems to be in remarkable condition considering its obvious age. You can make out most of it, what damage there is seems to have come from rodents rather than time.

Too late we have learnt the truth of the matter. Why the impossible war came and how we could have avoided what followed. We are now cut off and we have not where else to go, no-one to get this information to so we write it in on these pages and protect them from time in the hope that someone reads them and uses this knowledge to save themselves and others. Perhaps you will not get this until its too late, perhaps this will be nothing more than some historical parchment of note. I pray that is the case for if so then the living races have regained control of our beloved world and removed the vile undead that taints it so.

The impossible war was nothing more than a tool. A tool used by one who has eons to contemplate the outcome of events and plan for every contingency. I speak of course of the dark god Dergo. He had a plan to conquer this world and make it his own, to do that he needed to do one thing, to remove all the competition. He needed to remove his fellow gods so he could rule supreme over the world. This begs the question, how does one kill a god. We mortals could never hope to accomplish such a task but one with the patients of stone and the lifetime to match could do it.

Dergo rallied all the evil gods to his banner for the impossible war, how we do not know but that’s is what he did, he also gathered allies from the most powerful creatures of this world, what purpose these served beyond additional might on the battlefield we have not been able to learn but with a plot as great as this they surely must have been a purpose to gathering them.

Then with all the forces of evil arrayed upon the battlefield against the forces of good Dergo betrays his allies and leaves them do die. What purpose did this hold? Simple, without followers gods wither and die, at the very least they are weakened enough so they can be killed by someone who knows how and that is what Dergo did, while his followers did battle on our world a war was waged in the home of the gods. When it was complete all of the evil gods were killed or had fled and Dergo had accomplished the first part of the plan.

The next part of the plan required the deaths of the gods of goodness and light, only then could Dergo reign supreme, and with the millions of dead the war had created he had a ready made army at his disposal, all he needed was a general to lead them. We do not know where the Lich King came from but it was his power and that of his lieutenants that created the rituals to raise the billions of undead and organise them in to some kind of coherent fighting force. With this force he went about killing anyone who worhipped someone other than himself, defiling their temples and corrupting the very land. With each victory the gods of goodness and light were diminished. Their powers were already weakened from the impossible war but over time they got weaker as more and more of their followers died and joined Dergo’s ranks.

Dergo laid siege to the castles of the gods as they weakened the could no longer hold him at bay and one by one they fell as their evil brethren had.

His plan was only thwarted by one of the gods. She was diminished by the loss of her followers but she was a god not of gods and was able to repel Dergo. The war in the gods home raged for years and eventually the lady was forced to leave her home, and return to the place from which she came. However the very fact that she still lived drove Dergo in to massive fits of rage. Since that day he has expended a great deal of his energy trying to find her and destroy her and at this time he has not succeeded. Perhaps if she still lives then there is a chance for us all.

So you can see, the war was part of a much greater plot one through which Dergo hoped to rule supreme.

I leave you with one piece of advice that I hope you understand. The gods are dead, do not turn to them for aid, the only one who will hear you is the one who you must fight if this world is to survive.
