The Impossible War shook the foundations of the world. Such an thing should have never been possible but it happened and we had to make plans.
The Argus called a council of all its five parts to decide on a strategy, the impossible war could not be ignored for the first time in millennia the leaders of the four elemental Argus gathered under the gaze of the fifth and the council began.
The Argus had a job to do; it was their responsibility above all others to keep the Source safe from the old enemy. However, we also could not tell the ancient foe had any hand in the war so the Argus decided that they needed to get involved in the war as well as fulfil their responsibilities.
The Demons and the Angels were chosen to take part in the war. The Angels embodied strength and purity to the mortal races and the mortals believed the Angels involvement was a sign of righteousness of their fight. The Demons embodied power and fury that appealed to the armies of dark and they were immediately accepted in to the ranks.
Both of these races knew that the war may see the end of one or other of them, perhaps even both and both races took steps to prevent their extinction from this world forever because war or no, they still had a responsibility to protect the Source.
The demons seeded their offspring within the mortal population of the world where they would appear as mortals until such time as they came of age when their elemental heritage would begin to show. Never could they have predicted the undead invasion that followed the war and brought about the destruction of so many of their offspring. After the undead had done their work the Demon race was brought to the brink of annihilation. However, some mature Demons had escaped the war and some offspring survived. There may be few of them left but there were enough to begin rebuilding the race.
The Angels took a different approach. They took their offspring and sealed them in the great city of Goleskanev. The city was a mass of fortifications and armaments and the Trolls that lived there were strong and quick to heal making this capital of the Troll race a formidable fortress that the Angels, like many others believed would remain untouched by the war. The offspring were not only sealed away by stone but also by magic and a key was given to the then king of the Trolls who agreed to guard it with his life.
The Gargoyles, with their powers over rock and stone became the eyes and ears for the other Argus, they took up positions around the world and watched. Chances are you have seen them but never noticed that they were even there. As for the Leviathans, they took to the seas around the island on which the Source was stored. There is not way across those oceans to the source, they sink every ship or vessel that attempts the crossing and they use their might to keep the Source safe.
