Title: next event meal
Description: ideas

cookie - August 16, 2006 07:50 PM (GMT)
Hi Everyone

I thought that I would ask you for any ideas you may have for the next meal. Just for the one meal I won't necessarily keep it medieval but if there appears to be any popular request and I think I can cook it then I'll give it go. Have you got any favourite dishes (eg cow, pears cow, apples, cow and more cow) or anything that I've done that you'd really like again (please remember that I've got to do it for 50 people so it'd need to be quite straightforward). Just remember if you ask for it you just might get it!!!

vola - August 16, 2006 07:53 PM (GMT)
yes cow, loads of cow, sausages, cheese pie, pears in honey, venison, more cow, wild boar and a few pears in honey

Trevellian Moss - August 16, 2006 09:15 PM (GMT)
Pears in Honey!!!

And, not sure, how straight forward is game stew? I quite liked that and would like to see it again :)

Sir Caelwin - August 17, 2006 06:43 AM (GMT)
Hi

Pears in honey is lovely, the wild boar is good too. Chicken is usually a winner with most people, or pork. It's going to be cold so anything hot is usually a welcome treat.

MEAT[COLOR=red]!!!!

Filmy Ref - August 17, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Paul is requesting some sort of crumble, but not strawberry.
I would definately like more spiced pears in honey, and am always up for venison :)

Sir Niall ap Trahern - August 18, 2006 10:30 AM (GMT)
Venison or boar sounds good! :P

The Great Didier Elan - August 18, 2006 11:09 AM (GMT)
Pigeon, I like pigeon or wood cock.

or as I read on the news somewhere someone is making a medievil Rat Pie (not sure a butcher would do that though)

heres a radical idea... how about something fishy ? Didier might like that or a spotted dick ( He probibly wouldn't like that one though)
guinee foul makes a great stew or why not ask if we could do a fire pit and have a hog roast
what ever else please bring some jam

The Great Didier Elan - August 18, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
I love spotted Dick and Custard

As for a Hog Roast, easy to do but takes about 5 hours to cook properly. :D

Filmy Ref - August 18, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Hog roasts are too much work for one person, and it would cost at least £10 per head for a hog roast if we got a separate company to do it.
The fish is a nice idea, though not everyone likes fish.
Something portable to carry round would be good, for eating on the hoof, but would be fiddely as it requires more preperation for individual parts.

Trelaine - August 18, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
I agree the hog roast might sound good but probebly be too much work. Most companys only do them for more than 50 people as a minimum anyway so depending on turn out getting someone in wouldnt be possible either.

Any meat is good though especially pork or game.

As for desert those pears are always welcome

Dodgy Elf - August 19, 2006 12:16 AM (GMT)
I seem to remember venison sausages before and game stew.

Pears with the cinamon and honey was absolutely gorgeous (and the cream that always goes so well with the scones)

I'm very much a traditional english food person me, i know its not medieval but on a cold day a sheperds pie or something goes down well and because it can be made in trays it is usually good for bulk cooking!

Rice puds always nice and warming with a dollop of jam, pears go nice in rice pudding to and leaves more cream to me. Mwoohahahahaha.......

As i say not exaclty medieval but good solid food for possible cold weather.

And theres something i didnt need to know . . . . btw - tellos, fix your colour tags! :P

Jaqcui - food might be a suggestion! :D

The sheperds pie sounds like a bloody good idea, and you know ive missed those venizen sausages.

And oats of goodness would be prefered as . . . well, FG events allways find some way to utterly destroy my system.

(porridge ftw!)

Hi Everyone

Thanks everso for all the suggestions they've really helped. I've got a good idea about what I'll be doing (what do you mean Vola - that will make a change!!) and as soon as I've planned it a bit more I'll let you know for definite, suffice for now to say it will involve loads of meat, lots and lots of pears and probably venison sausages as well as the porridge for brekkie. I've also got some new recipes I want to try out before I decide whether to use them or not. Thanks again I always appreciate the feedback.

Filmy Ref - August 25, 2006 10:51 AM (GMT)
Damn, another taste test looms........ :P

Sgt Tellos - August 25, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
Yay!!

Now all we need is the date! ;) ;)

Oops. Wrong thread!! :P :P

Kd-chan - September 19, 2006 09:51 AM (GMT)
As long as I don't have to eat anything that's been stored in Craig's tent (dear God, that boy sweats like a pig, and his tent smells like something died in his mouth)... brekkie's sounding good, if I can get up that early.

The Shadowscythe - September 20, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
Look i told you, that smell was because my brother and his smelly friends stol my tent, and it being held up in hot weather only helped to furment THIER sweat . . blasted woman wont believe me though . . .

Oh yeah Jacqui . . after a meal you cooked a few days ago . . . beef crumble please! :D

Kd-chan - September 21, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
Still. If you don't have that tent dry-cleaned, then there's no way I'm leaving any of my stuff in it. :P

The Shadowscythe - September 22, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
The tent is dryed out woman!

On another note - stew please! with beef crumble!

The Great Didier Elan - September 25, 2006 12:51 PM (GMT)
