Title: IMPORTANT - SUMMER EVENT DETAILS

Omnipotent Overlord - July 3, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
Hi All

Ok we got a problem,

The farm is pretty much under water at the moment or what isnt is near pure mud and the chances of it being dry enough to camp on in less than a fortnight are slim to none, especially considering we are due more rain over the next few days.

This puts us in a sticky situation (no pun intended)

Realistically I can see two choices

1) We cancel the summer event and look towards the suddenly very distant Autumn event.

2) We try and rechedule the event. Realistically it would have to be some time in early August but at the outside we may be able to do something very early september but any later and we are getting too close to the Autumn event.

Well what do people thing? There is a slim chance the event will go ahead but we wont know for sure till after the weekend and thats cutting things close.

I realise it may be to late to rescheule but if thats what you want and I can get enough interest I shall do so but when you reply ill need dates people are free.

Anyway, over to you.

Trelaine - July 3, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
Since i already booked the long weekend for next weekend I'm happy to wait and see if the slim chance happens...If site not usable then I could reschedule for any august weekend bar the bank holiday when i'm already larping and since it's the biggys for most systems i'm guessing several others are too.

Sir Niall ap Trahern - July 3, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
I am going to have serious issues getting any other time off work for August - they changed rules for getting leave to more draconian measures earlier this year. However, I can appreciate that conditions at the farm will most likely prevent the event going ahead (f***ing global warming). :(

In all likelehood unless any other dates coincide with my days off I may be left waiting the release of dates for the autumn event (as always the more notice I get of dates the better the chances of me getting to an event).

It's not really looking to be my year - first easter, now it looks like summer.

Sir Niall ap Trahern - July 3, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
As an aside I'm already away for the last weekend of August (which runs into September) which rules that one out for me. However, if in general people are for re-scheduling, rather than cancelling, then I would rather the event went ahead; even if I couldn't make it.

Trevellian Moss - July 3, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
I'm away the first weekend in august. But other than that, I'll be okay with whatever is decided.

Meiko - July 3, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
Getting Holiday is a serious problem for me as I have to book not just the friday but also the sunday as well.
I hope the event goes ahead but if not then I may have a problem making it if it's rescheduled but I will do everything short of leaving my job to try and make it.
On the whole I think it's better to reschedule than cancel as I know many people have been looking forward to it and might not want to wait till autumn.

Meiko - July 3, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
Forgot to add that I don't actually have anything booked in August so realistically if I can get it then anytime in August would be fine for me.

kell - July 3, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
Well I blame Pete for this as he planed the date for Friday 13th it was doomed from the start doomed I say doooooomed ;)

Ok joking aside no one can foresee what the weather will do so I guess we just have to hope for the best. But I don’t hold out much hope the weather will get any better soon :( p|

infyrana - July 3, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
First two to three weekends in August are a no go (courses / on call). I have to plan my weekends well in advance (pref more than two months).

If dates in September are arranged asap, I could book that in except if it's the middle of the month (ie the weekends 15th/22nd).

Otherwise I've already booked holiday and planned my weekend in July. But obviously a flooded farm makes for a no go on the event, so I'm obviously waiting on any updates :)

Sgt Tellos - July 4, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
Weekends starting 27th July, 10th August and 7th September are out for me, otherwise as much notice as possible, same as evryone else I'm guessing, to arrange time off, babysitters etc.

But you never know we may get 2 weeks of glorious sunshine and the event will run as planned, you never can tell with our weather!

Isobel - July 4, 2007 10:15 AM (GMT)
We are on holls the last two weeks of August and first few days of sept so would prefer an early September date but we are happy to wait and see what its like at the farm before a decision is made.Is there any chance of camping on higher ground .
if all else fails how about doing a four day November event ?

~Book~ - July 4, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
Majotr issues with me for getting time off.

I'd still like to hope the weekend will be fine... I remembe a lake being there one year...

Laninia Summerbreeze - July 4, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
I have had such a crappy week and was really looking forward to this event, so I'm more than willing to hold out till after the weekend to find out if its going to be on at all... I agree with Tracey, is there no chance of camping on higher ground?

Sgt Tellos - July 4, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Pete could always put us up in the Holiday Inn!!

Sir Niall ap Trahern - July 4, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
QUOTE (Sgt Tellos @ Jul 4 2007, 08:54 PM)
Pete could always put us up in the Holiday Inn!!

I second that! :D

Laninia Summerbreeze - July 5, 2007 07:48 AM (GMT)
looking at the weather reports, it looks like rain rain, clouds and rain for most of England. Apparently It's going to be like this for most of July.

Me and Dan are off to Holland in september so its a no go for us around then.

Sgt Tellos - July 5, 2007 08:25 AM (GMT)
Weather Forecast says scattered showers, I guess this means that your farm will still be a swamp.

You could always run a "Southern Comfort" LRP!

~Book~ - July 5, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Apprently High pressure is headed this way soooo you never know..

Sgt Tellos - July 5, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
I think we all do know, if there is lots of standing water then it is very unlikely that the farm will be suitable for camping!

cat - July 5, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
As this was a big weekend for me away with mike on our own ( and the rest of you!! ) I really don't want it to be cancelled, I hate the english weather

we're the same as steve for the last weekend of august

Everybody cross your fingers and toes!!

Luv cat

Trelaine - July 5, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
As a cheer up plan in case the unfortunately now likely happens...any northampton lot interested in a Aroma + King Billy evening to help us forget the woes the weather has brought?

Filmy Ref - July 5, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
That's a good idea :D

Omnipotent Overlord - July 6, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
OK all

Having talked to some people, rescheduling the event is going to be practically impossible by my reckoning so we are looking at a choice of running something or cancelling it completly

I am going for another walk around the farm on Sunday and will give everyone the verdict then about the state of the event but judging by the weather it does not look good.

I do wish it was as simple as camping on higher group as some people suggested but we have 2 flaws with that

1) Most of the site is underwater so if we camped on the high ground there would be no where to run any of the encounters

2) Even the high ground is muddy as hell

I have been ringing around sites to try and find anywhere we can do the event and I am getting the same answers everywhere, either the site is booked, flooded or booked and flooded so I have had no luck there either.

A few people have made other suggestions which I am working on, the first being running a social event, more like a grand tavern night. The advantage of this being we dont need much site but means it will be a mostly RP event.

The other being we run a 1 day event, again not needing as much site but having only a week to put something together for it could prove to be tricky

Either way I am looking in to whether we can pull either of them off because I am going to be gutted if I have to cancel FG totally, I have been looking forward to it for months.

Anyway, more news as I get it.

Pete

Morgrim - July 6, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
fingers crossed then :)) in fact il keep everything crossed :)

Kd-chan - July 6, 2007 02:47 PM (GMT)
Not wishing to be sadistic or pessimistic at all, but it's looking like they're not going to give me next weekend off work now, so doing something different would be welcome news to me personally... although obviously if there's no event I'll still be kinda bummed about it. The weather did perk up a bit yesterday, so there's definitely still hope.

If there's the opportunity to have a 1-day or 1-night setup instead, I'd be all for that. We could maybe even bring Craig over on a forklift to sit in a corner and drink mead. ^_^

>KATZ< - July 6, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
well heres hopeing the weather does do a uturn.

but Katz would say this unnatural weather is down to them damn mage's and there unnatural acts.

Sgt Tellos - July 6, 2007 04:13 PM (GMT)
I think the best bet, if the farm is still unuseable, is just to cancel. A lot of people have plans over he summer and it would be a shame to run a rescheduled event that a lot of people (especially paying players!) couldn't attend.

infyrana - July 6, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the update, I'm all for hoping the farm becomes useable. Otherwise I am happy to hear any other suggestions. It's a fair travel for just a day, but should there be somewhere to stay I'm all up for an overnighter event.

Good luck :)

Trelaine - July 6, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
so chinese and pub it is then.

~Book~ - July 6, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
Hmmm.. damn..

here is hoping it's going to be okay.

Dodgy Elf - July 7, 2007 10:54 AM (GMT)
If it is ok can someone please supply a set of stocks and some rotten produce. That way we can start the weekend pelting Book before releasing him for te adventure. :)

Omnipotent Overlord - July 7, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)
OK Listen up everyone

Next weekend there WILL be an event.

However, there are one of two possibilities for the event

1) We have a week of lovely weather and the site dries up even more than it has done and we run the planned event as per normal.

2) It rains all week and the site gets wetter than it is now BUT we camp at the top of the hill and run what have been dubbed a social event.

By Social event we mean we will run a glorified tavern night which is mostly RP based however, seeing as a number of players have approached me asking to do things in character there would not normally be able to do at events due to plot or due to not having the time we will run things to allow players to undertake these tasks. Mini linears if you like for different people to accomplish things for themselves, their group or just for the heck of it.

So I suggest you think hard and see if there is anything you want to do with or for your character that you may not usually have the time or opportunity to do at a normal event and if the worst happens, you might just get the chance next weekend.

Guest - July 7, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
all sounds good to me , if theres a social event will it be a weekend still or just for the day?

Omnipotent Overlord - July 7, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
whatever we do will be for the full weekend, friday to sunday as normal

Sgt Tellos - July 7, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Morgrim - July 7, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Disaster strikes!!! our lift has just told us he cannot take us to the event , so we are looking into a different way to get there :(

Trelaine - July 7, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
Sounds good to me...:) see u all next weekend..

~Book~ - July 7, 2007 09:07 PM (GMT)
Pete look out for trains.. from where you are should be quite cheap :)

infyrana - July 7, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
I shall continue to monitor the thread and hope for some good weather. I just got sunburnt at the Tewkesbury medieval festival today - they managed to get some lovely dry ground despites the other area they were going to used being waterlogged.

Kd-chan - July 8, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
I've had it confirmed yesterday that I can't have the weekend off. I will be able to attend Friday, and up until about midday Saturday, but then I have to go home and work. If the normal event goes ahead, then I'm kinda screwed. *cry*
