The end for the Khemrir began with the creation of the other races to share their world. The Khemrir did not realize the repercussions of their actions until it was too late. Initially the Khemrir acted as guardians to the younger races, they shared some of their knowledge with their charges, and as they became able to look after themselves, the Khemrir withdrew and took on a more distant role. The younger races paid homage to these distant beings of amazing powers and knowledge, they built temples to them and worshipped them. Over time people began to worship the aspect of the Khemrir that they knew best, knowledge, war, life and so on. Eventually the Khemrir became little more than a legend to the younger races and were forgotten to the annals of history. The people continued to pay homage to whatever suited them, in to this void were born the gods. Birthed by the faith of those who worshipped them.
By this time the Khemrir had withdrawn to their great cities in far off places to leave the younger races fend for themselves. Occasionally one of those that go between went out in to the world and saw how things were. When the gods were discovered and the Khemrir found that the younger races had forgot them, they tried to correct the balance. Those of the star went again in to the world to educate the younger races. Those of the void went in to kill those who followed the gods. However, both groups failed to realize that the gods had power of their own and were not about to let their position be usurped. The gods granted powers to their followers and they fought off those of the void. They also granted knowledge to their followers so they no longer needed those of the star.
Those that go between stood back and looked at what was happening. Then they called the others together to discuss what should be done.
Those that go between said that they wait, the gods were born and therefore must die.
Those of the star said that the younger races still needed shepherds and they should continue to spread their wisdom through the younger races.
Those of the void said that they should take the fight to the gods themselves. With them gone the younger races will be theirs again.
After an age of argument between the three groups nothing was decided, so the three groups chose to each go their separate ways and do as they said they saw fit.
Those that go between withdrew their cities from the land in to time where they wait for the gods to die.
Those of the star went back in to the world to spread their ways. After years of little success they decided to try something different. They preached as if they were sharing the teachings of their god. The god of the world itself, she who looks after all. This tactic worked and a great many flocked to hear their words. Unfortunately for the Khemrir, this had the unfortunate side effect of actually bringing the god of the world in to existence and made her the most powerful of all. When they realized what they had done Those of the star tried to undo their work. Knowing that they may succeed, the god of the world worked her powers on to those of the star and made them part of her world. Those of the star forgot their past and settled in remote woodlands and mountains where her powers did their work. When the Khemrir walked again from these places they were much changed. Those of the mountains were short but strong and those of the forests were tall and enchanting.
As to what happened to those of the void, little is known. They took their fight to the gods, that is certain, but they obviously did not succeed. Either they died fighting to reclaim their world or they continue the fight to this day. Perhaps they will emerge one day when the gods are no more to join the rest of their race and reclaim that they see as theirs. Perhaps not…
