The savage beasts we now know were called Therians were a blight to the elves. Many were lost to their foul appetites and those that survived their horrible ordeal with one soon became a Therian and began the slaughter anew.

For many years the these savage creatures preyed upon the free world slaughtering all, men, women, old and young, none were safe from their savage attacks. Until one elf by the name of Quinn came forward and proposed a complicated yet daring plan.

Could the elves using the magic of rituals rid themselves of these beasts once and for all. For many the possibility of causing genocide to the Therians did not sit well but so many had lost loved ones to the beasts that it was agreed the plan should be attempted.

Quinn lead the ritual which was approved by the elven High Mages, after all it was his plan, the honour should be his. The ritual was performed at an old magic circle just north of the village called Dimlit. The power was drawn and the rites performed just as had been written. All seemed to be going well until a group of elves lead an attack against the ritual group. So unexpected was the attack that they almost made it through the defences Quinn had in place, some wonder if he had been expecting trouble.

One member of the attacking party did make it through the defenders at the cost of his friends lives, he broke in to the ritual circle and started to utter words of his own to change the ritual and make it something else.

Quinn called upon his deity to strengthen his will and bolster his power to restore the true purpose for which is was intended. It then became a test of wills between Quinn and the unknown elf. The smoothness with which Quinn continued the ritual and turned it back to its true course and how he overwhelmed the elf in the battle of wills and wits that ensued have made some wonder if he did not expect or even plan the intervention of the unknown elf so that he may deviate from the prepared ritual. Others simply accept he was the master ritualist he came to be known as.

Either way the unknown elf did not last long for he was soon blasted from the circle with a bolt of pure magic as his will was overwhelmed. By all rights it should have killed the elf but no body was found so we could only assume that he lived and made his escape.

The ritual continued but in a much changed manner, the prepared ritual had gone and Quinns own now continued. He later justified this as being necessary in order to undo the damage the elf had done. He called on his deity several times and seeming was answered for the ritual was completed.

The circle was from that moment on rendered dead as its magic was used to hold the Therians in their captivity. Note that I say captivity for it seems the unknown elf did some irreparable damage to the ritual and Quinn was not able to complete the genocide of the Therians. Instead they were sealed away forever behind the door forged by that ritual circle. The Therians and that circle were forever bonded. Defences were left to ensure no-one ever attempted a ritual at that spot again lest they create a portal to the Therians prison and set them free upon the world again.
