Description: Dergo's Treachery

The following appears to be entries in a journal, most have been obscured by blood or age but some parts can still be read.

Our best and bravest, our most devout and most powerful have been assembled to join Dergo’s host, an army so large that none can stand against it. They are calling this the impossible war for none thought it could ever happen. Happen it has and here we stand on the brink of greatness. Our forces left this morning to meet the army at their staging point, in a few days those lucky enough to have been chosen will roll over the forces of light and goodness in a mighty battle and a new age will dawn over this world.

A message was received this morning, Dergo’s host stands before the pathetic assembly that has been raised to try and stop it. Today is the day that we grind them to dust.

Something has gone wrong, reports are unclear but it seems we have been beaten, how can this be, the forces against us were of no match, we should be rejoicing in the victory over our foes but instead we are confused, what is going on we must find out.

Information is still not forthcoming, no-one seems to know what has happened, we hope a few of our number survived the battle and even now are heading back to tell us what transpired.

One of the brothers who went off to the battle returned today, I have no idea how he made it back as he was grievously injured and collapsed soon after he was admitted through the gate. Our finest are working on him now in the hope they can save him, all those who went off to battle and only one returns, this is a terrible sign.

Our brother still remains unconscious although he is stable now, it was close at times but it seems he is watched over and protected. Each hour that passes we hope he will recover so we can find out what really happened.

A messenger arrived today from the village down the mountain. Apparently a small force of troops that escaped from the ill fated battle have come through the area looking for sanctuary. It seems the forces of light have taken it upon themselves to hunt down the stragglers, they beat us why cant they be happy with that, why must they hunt us down. Anyway they need somewhere safe to rest and recover. We have agreed to shelter them for if no other reason than if we are to be attacked we will need every defender we can muster.

The group arrived before dark, they are some of the forces of Dergo himself. While his troops rested the commander told us of the battle, how wrong things went and how we were beaten. What a terrible fight that must have been between his story and the wounds upon himself and his men the battle must have been a horror to behold. After he told his tale he went to sleep with his men, obviously exhausted.

Our brother awoke in the night, I went to his side to hear his tale. The tale he told was very different to the one we had so recently heard from the commander. He told of the betrayal of Dergo, we and all the others had been left to the slaughter by those loyal to Dergo, how his troops had then turned and fled the battlefield and even now are raising the villages and towns across the land. No wonder we are being hunted. It was only then it dawned on me that the Commander had lied to us and there was no reason for him to do that unless he was up to something that meant ill for us. Sadly as I realised this the screaming started.

We let them in and offered them shelter and they slaughter us while we slept. Most of my brothers are dead and Dergo’s troops move through our halls killing those who remain. I have retreated to the library and wait for them here, I shall not let them take me or my life’s work. The library will burn with them inside it. The floor is covered in paper and dowsed with lamp oil, when they come in to kill me I shall throw down a torch and the room will burn, we all will burn.

Fool that I am, I used all the lamp oil on the floor and my torch is almost out. It died a few moments before and I can’t get it lit. I can hear them coming, I don’t have much time.
