Quarterback leads Destroyers to first ArenaBowl title appearance Sunday

NEW ORLEANS — Columbus Destroyers quarterback Matt Nagy was awarded the Russell Athletic Team Leader Award, the Arena Football League announced Friday night at the 2007 ADT ArenaBall Awards Gala. Nagy is the first-ever recipient of the award.

Nagy (6-2, 220, Delaware) has a 3-0 record in the 2007 postseason as the starting signal caller for the Destroyers. He has completed 62-of-92 passes for 755 yards and 14 touchdowns in defeating the top three seeded teams in the National Conference.

The fifth-year quarterback is making his second appearance in the AFL’s title game in three years. The Lancaster, Pa. native, led the Georgia Force to its first-ever ArenaBowl appearance in 2005.

To go along with the award, Russell Athletic will donate uniforms for to a high-school of Nagy’s choice in the greater Columbus area for the 2007 season.

Nagy joins the following Destroyers’ players who have earned end of the season League honors in 2007: Columbus Destroyers center Will Rabatin (All-Rookie Team), defensive lineman Ken Jones (All-Arena First-Team), wide receiver/defensive back B.J. Barre and fullback/linebacker Harold Wells (All-Ironman Team).
