Rush wide receiver Bobby Sippio parlayed the best offensive season in team history -- and the second-best in Arena Football League history -- into a shot at the NFL when he signed a two-year contract Sunday with the Kansas City Chiefs.
''Good things come to those who work hard, stay focused and are patient,'' Sippio said. ''I enjoyed the time I spent with the Rush. They gave me an opportunity to perform, and I gave it all I've got. I plan to do the same thing for the Chiefs.''

Sippio led the AFL this past season with 52 touchdowns and 312 points, both Rush records, despite missing 3½ games with an ankle injury. A year after he helped the Rush to the ArenaBowl championship, it finished with a team-record 12 wins and a Central Division title before losing to eventual AFL champion San Jose in the Western Conference final.

''We're thrilled for Sippio,'' Rush general manager Mike Polisky said. ''He is a tremendous talent, a wonderful teammate and definitely one of the top players, if not the top, to ever wear a Rush uniform. He was the main reason we won the ArenaBowl last year.

''Now he's in a win-win situation to have a chance to make the Chiefs' roster or to play with us again if he doesn't.''

Although Sippio's contract is not guaranteed, his agent, Martin Prince, said he was assured by a team insider that Sippio ''definitely will be playing with the Chiefs [this] season.''

''They brought in five guys to try out for the team, and Sippio topped them all,'' Prince said. ''He's 26 years old, 6-3 and 225 pounds and playing the best football of his life.''

Sippio's previous attempt to make the NFL, in 2003 with the Miami Dolphins, was cut short by an injury.

I think this needs to be the definitive answer as to the quality of players that are in the AFL. All it takes is one little injury and the NFL is more than ready to cast a guy off onto the discard pile of worthless trash. Everytime the NFL takes a guy from the AFL I think of it as proof that the NFL does not have all of the best. I hope Sippio blows it right through the roof this season! He'll also be my very last WR pick in my draft this season. Definitely a strong #3 WR at the very least. They only have Kennison and Parker that are guaranteed spots but neither of them are all that big and neither is anyone else remaining. Sippio will easily take over the #3 position. With teams keying on Kennison & LJ (once he comes back) that should open Sippio up all day. They'll lay so far off of him "...'cuz he comes from the AFL so he's not a real threat." Ok, so that's not a real quote but you know that's what the other teams will be thinking. It's called a lack of respect.
