Title: Roster thoughts.....
Description: Who will survive camp? Who starts where?

IF Fan - January 24, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Who is going to make the team? Not sure how many locks there are. I'm going with a few in bold. QB, Troy and the DL look to be the only spots etched in stone with some interesting possible combinations at the other spots. OL looks to be very young and DB could be interesting. Was the Umar move only to open a training camp slot or is that a need to fill? Some decisions to make with the scrimmage with Preds only 6 days after camp opens.

We'll need another FB. As much as I love Matt he's a little injury prone.

I have high hopes for Cone. If he doesn't pan out I'll be highly disappointed.

Everyone you have in bold sounds like a lock to me too.

The rest will just have to duke it out and hope that the coaching staff get it right.

Where is the scrimmage with the Preds?

I agree with the FB position. I was hoping Dan was going to be here, but that didn't work out.

Maybe they could run that scrimmage game at the Arena in the form of yet another open house. Give a few more folks a chance to see the product and possibly jump on a season ticket package.

I know it would be a lot or work and expense, but it could pay off big in the long run. Maybe CH and the Force camp would be receptive to that idea.

There was another one on the DB that should have been bold -- Just because he has to be here -- Gary, Willie DB 5-10 185 11.1.78 6 Kentucky.

Here are some others that I think have a good shot:

Nowland, Ben C 6-2 300 5.27.80 3 Auburn
Crocker, David DB 5-11 205 10.14.80 2 Stephen F. Austin (maybe the same reason as the above DB, not because he is one of the best out there)

Nowland probably has the inside track at center with Nick Jones out of the picture, but I'm not sure he is a lock yet.

Ward and Crocker may have an edge, but I still see the DB slots fairly open, with a lot of possibilities on the roster....
