Description: Well... sorta...

When the Nashville Kats were purchased and moved to Atlanta in 2002 to become the Georgia Force, they were coming off two consecutive Arena Bowl appearances. Along with the franchise came Assistant Coach Bob Kronenberg, Tyronne Jones, Darryl Hammond, Bruce McClure, as well as other pieces that would become fan favorites and key figures in the brief history of the new black and blue edition. However, one critical piece that did not make the trip down I-75 was centerpiece quarterback Andy Kelly... until now. After six seasons, including four playoff births, Kelly has returned to the franchise of his greatest success in a backup roll to fellow AFL record-holder Chris Greisen.

Both the (old) Kats fan and the Force fan in me are very, very happy today. I've been waiting for this for six years. Don't get me wrong - I'm not calling for him to supplant Greisen anytime soon, but having Kelly suit up in black and blue is going to be an awesome thing for us historically context sensitive football fans to see!

I do hate seeing Dougherty go. I mean, who doesn't like a backup QB that can get an unnecessary roughness penalty?!?!

This HAS to mean good things for the offensive brain trust, though. The guy has more AFL offensive experience than the rest of the offense practically combined (with apologies to Bruiser).

Wow! Talk about a boost to our offense! The experience alone will help tremendously not to mention the mature leadership qualities!

Hopefully the waterboys can keep the Ensure cooler seperated from the Gatorade.

:jk:

I am sorry I like Kelly but I don't see where this is going to help us yes experience he has but if he doesn't get on the field I don't see it helping us very much.He was hurt last year is he fully recovered?Well I guess this kinda goes with the season we will just have to wait and see what happens.

yes experience he has

Yoda?

Why all the gloom and doom? You really think that having him on the bench puts the team in a worse position? I don't.

emmitt pharr - March 26, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
I don't think it puts the team in worst position but I just don't think it really helps us.I think we have other areas that need more attention then the QB spot thats all.I hope it is a good move I just don't see it helping us as much as we need help in other areas. Its not doom and gloom I just don't understand the move unless Greisen is hurt or hurting and they want the experience there in case he can't go.

I really think that you might see him as OC before the season is over. Look what Dallas has done with their current backup QB. I really could see that here now that Andy is here. We know he knows the game and that would free up "KUB" to go back doing needed personnel requirements.

By the way WELCOME ANDY!

emmitt pharr - March 27, 2008 12:41 AM (GMT)
I will go for that Kelly as our OC I think that is a great Idea because to me our current OC is not working good at all.Welcome Andy.

HitemHarder - March 27, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
There ya go, Emmitt! Get that glass half full!

Besides, Kelly was going to be the HC of the Tennessee AAFL team, so he does have some interest in coaching, and I definitely have some interest in having his offensive influence here, regardless of whether or not he is on the field.

emmitt pharr - March 27, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
Oh believe me I have all the respect in the world for Kelly.Believe me I don't like our play calling at all right now.I know Kelly has great experience and I would love him to take over as OC.

I had not even considered this idea...I hope that's what is going on!

As far as Kelly in the OC spot, go for it. We need a change and need it now.

Pearli mentioned Dallas' success with their backup, but in addition to being the starter Dolezel is the OC. He calls his own plays. It was pointed out during the season opener that after his playing days end, he will retain the OC position with the team. Looks like he's doing a damn fine job from the sidelines.

If that can work there, maybe it can work here with Kelly.

DeaconBlues - March 27, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
I always liked Kelly. I real tough competitor, a lot like Doezel. Having a veteran like that on your team can do nothing but help. I also feel better that we now have an experienced back-up. Look what Philly did with D'Orazio. They didn't miss a beat when Graz when down.

Posting something over there is like taking a shower with your raincoat on......
