Title: Mark Penn Advocates FREE TRADE w/ Columbian Ambas.
Description: Can anyone say "PROJECTION"?

HolyMoses - April 4, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
"PROJECTION" is a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others. Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted subconscious impulses/desires without letting the ego recognize them. The theory was developed by Sigmund Freud and further refined by his daughter Anna Freud, and for this reason, it is sometimes referred to as "Freudian Projection

Remember the allegations about Obama's folks talking to the Canadians about NAFTA? Check this out!

(CNN) — Clinton campaign strategist Mark Penn said Friday it was an "error in judgment" for him to meet with the Colombian ambassador to advocate for a free-trade agreement Hillary Clinton has said she opposes.

"The meeting was an error in judgment that will not be repeated and I am sorry for it," Penn said in an issued statement. "The senator's well known opposition to this trade deal is clear and was not discussed."

The meeting, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, occurred Monday. Penn appears to have been acting in his role as chief executive of the international communications and lobbying firm, Burson-Marsteller Worldwide. The Colombian Embassy hired the firm to help achieve congressional approval of a bill allowing free trade with the country — a proposal Clinton has sharply criticized.

Earlier Friday, Clinton spokesperson Mo Elleithee said the New York senator "remains steadfast against the Colombian Trade Bill," and maintained Penn's meeting was "not in any way done on behalf of the campaign."

Clinton has sharply criticized America's free trade agreements as she campaigns for the Democratic presidential nomination, and was particularly critical of rival Barack Obama in February when it was reported that one of his chief foreign policy advisors had suggested to a Canadian official that the Illinois senator was not as anti-free trade as he was claiming to be on the trail.

"I don't think people should come to Ohio and tell the people of Ohio one thing and then have your campaign tell a foreign government something else behind closed doors," Clinton said then. "That's the kind of difference between talk and action and that I've been pointing out in this campaign."

"I would ask you to look at that story, substitute my name for Senator Obama," she also said. "If some of my advisers had been having private meetings with foreign governments and basically saying ignore what I'm saying because it's only political rhetoric … I think it raises serious questions."

Question: WHY would anyone PAY someone who IS the chief campaign stratagist for a Presidential candidate who claims to oppose free trade to lobby FOR free trade?

Anyone? anyone?? Bueller?

Look for a large infusion of funds traceable to Columbia (with much effort) to appear in Hilary's campaign any day now.

I'm sure Penn just misspoke. For the entire duration of the meeting. And hey, Clinton's camp *did* say the meeting was "not in any way done on behalf of the campaign." It's not like they would lie to us.

One would think that level of gross insubordination would be cause for immediate termination. She's such a sweetheart for giving him another chance.

That's HILLARYous!

Of course, the Pennsylvania working class folks who SHOULD be pissed as hell about this are either too dumb or too racist (or both) for it to make a difference.

Nice! How long have you been waiting to use that one? :D

As for your second part, I'm hopeful Bob Casey's endorsement will help with the union base. I think he's Obama's only major endorsement in that area, though. It seems the members will vote for whomever the union boss supports, and I HOPE they are still pissed at Bill for NAFTA...and take it out on Hillary. (That's my grasp at straws for the day.)

Well, the fact that she was caught in a blatant lie about her support a few weeks ago SHOULD have made a difference.

Now with Penn pushing for free trade . . . that SHOULD seal the deal . . . but we'll see.

And I've used the HILLARYous schtick a few times. But I try to save it for special occasions.

He's in a dicey little position. Hillary has done an amazing job of adjusting expectations to fit the results. It boggles my mind that her own people were saying they needed a landslide in Texas and Ohio to stay in the race. Well she LOST Texas and Ohio was smaller than ANY of the victories Obama won from Super Tuesday until March fourth.

Yet it was lauded as "Hillary's huge come back!"

We are morons.

etifan - April 7, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
Wait - you mean they *finally* finished counting Texas? :jk:

Agree, HM...morons. And you KNOW Penn's resignation will be spun as a display of forthrightness by Hillary's camp:

She's going to bash Obama with "experience", and the morons won't leave their comfort zone and place their trust in someone who actually shows a little innovation and integrity. He's the "fancy numbers guy" equivalent this time around, but fortunately no one wants to have a beer with Clinton. She has no down-home charm...maybe there is some hope...
