Title: Should "Politics" Be Combined with "Chatterbox"?
Description: Wondering what other folks think . . .

HolyMoses - April 5, 2008 04:21 AM (GMT)
Personally,

1) I hate toggling back and forth between the threads.

2) The more views on the posts, the more likely there will be interesting dialogue.

3) This board is not (hopefully YET) busy enough such that threads would get burried too quickly if there was not a separate politics thread.

I'm Jewish. So was Sammy Davis Jr. and my Rabbi. You become a Jew because you chose to adopt the Jewish faith, whether as a "Bar Mitzvah" (actually, you are Jewish when you are born, but become a "man" when Bar Mitzvahed) or convert as an adult (as two of the above mentioned did.)

Along those lines, just as people either ARE a member of an Indian tribe or not. People either ARE Jewish or they are NOT. You can't be "half Jewishi" any more than you can be "1/4 Cherokee"

Just as you can't be "half Christian" . . .

I don't know why I'm going into all this. I know you're making a joke. And I'm not remotely offended.

It's good.

And thanks for your vote.

And I've only been here a week.

It's not a shit storm at all. Feel free to bring up any subject about the boards you want.

It's just easy for political arguments to spill over into other topics when things get heated. We're hoping that keeping politics in it's own forum will keep any animosity from the good natured conversation here.

As I recall, it was. Or so the story went . . . . I'll google it.

Alfred E. Neuman - April 5, 2008 05:33 AM (GMT)
I used to do something similar on my engineering drawings. I'd zoom waayyyyy in on the corner of a building or something and either insert some random porn image or I'd write a nice little hate letter. Totally invisible on the full sized drawing. Nothing more than a pixel.

But I knew it was there.

My own little bit of lame corporate anarchy.

I agree. A lot of people want to read the "chatter' type stuff without bothering with the political threads.

It also makes finding the political threads that I want to read/post easier. It would be a pain in the arse to sift through all the chatterbox stuff to find a couple of political threads that I'm interested in.

I would combine them...

... BUT only if threads about the same issue are merged and spamming the same topic is not tolerated.

Personally,

1) I hate toggling back and forth between the threads.

2) The more views on the posts, the more likely there will be interesting dialogue.

3) This board is not (hopefully YET) busy enough such that threads would get burried too quickly if there was not a separate politics thread.

Please keep them separate, I do not want to have to wade through snake's global warming crap on here like I have to do on the official message board.

In general I find the discussion of politics on message boards revolve around a small amount of people going in circles over the same issues round and round and round.

If I ever want to participate in that I'll go to the politics forum.

Iowahorse - April 5, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)
The Political forum will be staying where it is. First off, it keeps me sane, along with others, not to have to see all the time, and two, it works well we found, as a buffer. People tend to leave political opinions and arguments in the political forum and not drag them out of it, which tends to cause MB meltdowns in other places I've seen. So, in short, things won't be changing in that aspect.

I almost voted for you, until I saw you finally made it in here towards the end. Kinda knew what you'd say.

And I'm in total agreement, btw. To quote the Offspring "Ya Gotta Keep 'Em Separated"!

etifan - April 7, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
You have a good point about expanding the participant base, but I have to agree that it's best kept separate. I prefer to choose whether I want to even see the political threads on a given day, similar to the football threads.

Not that I endorse imposing my preferences on others...although I guess I just did...
