Title: Hey Flight

Iowahorse - April 9, 2008 04:27 AM (GMT)
I know you watch some anime like I do,..ever watched Zipang? I think there was only like 26 episodes, but it seems pretty good. I'm only on Episode three. Here's the plot synopsis from Wiki:

"The newest, most modern warship in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, the guided missile destroyer Mirai sets sail from Japan on a training exercise with the U.S. Navy. Enroute, they encounter a strange meteorological anomaly. The Mirai loses contact with her sister ships but finds herself sailing by the unmistakable shape of the battleship Yamato.

The Mirai eludes the Imperial Japanese fleet and, reluctantly, the crew realizes that they have traveled sixty years into their past to the early days of World War II. Their first desire is to return home, and to insure that they have a home to which to return they decide to do nothing that will change history. That good intention does not last long, however, and gradually they are drawn into the conflict, though they continue to refuse to choose one side over another. The struggle of the crew from a modern, peaceful, and wealthy Japan to resist the nationalistic appeal of defending their country, knowing that in this time it is ruled by a brutal, totalitarian and militaristic government is the central theme of Zipang."

Just finished the Baki The Grappler series..heard a rumor there may be some new episodes coming out tho..that would be sweet. Living week to week on Bleach stinks, same with the Naruto Shippuden series.

I'm drawing a brain fart on the boxing anime series I just finished up a while back,..it was pretty good too.

I don't watch much episodic anime. I think the last episode anime I watched was one of the Ghost in the Shell ones (maybe stand alone complex?). I don't like the stories interupted by credits or having to jump through scenes. I watch antologies like Animatrix and Memories though.

I would probably shit myself if I ever watched Narturo (my lady's son loves the shit).Where do you get rent your anime? What anime do you own and what might be your current top 5?

I hated Naruto when my kid would come over on weekends and watch it..little bastid got me hooked on it. I actually don't own any anime,..well..a cpl. random VCR tapes with stuff on it. I watch all mine online for free, it's just a matter of sorting thru the crap, and finding a series with the least holes, or complete collections. Veoh.com is great for this. Probably the best, actually, once you get it's oddball search down. Surfthechannel is good, so is alluc.org also.

My top current 5? Hmm, probably something like this:

Bleach (Kicks ass)
Fighting Spirit (That was the boxing one, very good)
Samurai Champloo
Naruto Shippuden
Baki The Grappler

Busou Renkin and Hunter X Hunter also rank well.

Ton80kid - April 9, 2008 05:52 AM (GMT)
Woohoo...anime.

I'd have to say my top 5 anime series are:

1. Bleach
2. Trinity Blood
3. Hellsing
4. Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets)
5. Inuyasha

All time favorite anime movies

1. Vampire Hunter D
2. Bloodlust (sequel to Vampire Hunter D)
3. The Grave of the Fireflies
4. The Ghost in the Shell
5. Akira
6. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
7. Ninja Scroll
8. X
9. Blood: The Last Vampire
10. Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence

Ninja Scroll was good. Just too short. I've been trying to watch Inuyasha, but I have a hard time getting into it. Some eps. are good...some really suck.

You guys ever seen Metropolis (not haunter megalopolis)?
Have you seen the 2005 (I think) version of Appleseed?
Spriggan?
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence?
I saw this extreme black an white animation (I think it's french) called Resistance which was pretty sweet as was this anime called Karas.

I'll have to get to thinking on my top 5. Metropilis andAppleseed (2005) are on that list.

Iowahorse - April 9, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
I'd like to watch Spriggan, but I ain't found a link online yet.

I buy the movies that I really like and I burn and rent the rest. You should try that.

I probably own less than 12 movies on vhs/dvd total, and that's 36 years of accumulation. I don't see myself spending money on 'em now.

burning: get a dvd drive that can record movies. Get a program that lets you defeat the copy-protection (like AnyDVD/cloneDVD, roxio, or shaman would know good ones) then burn them to dvds. Or at least save the DL shits to a HD.

I only buy the retail dvds of the ones I like a lot. Most of mine were burned from rentals.

You can get a spool of 50 dvds for 9 bucks

Iowa, you see an anime called Samurai 7. Apparently it's a twist on the old Seven Samurai movie. It's in episodes.

I thought it sounded good too. I like that movie Seven Samurai, and although I don't like episodes, I'm thinking about getting the set.
