That's bitter.

people being bitter. I'm not saying there are no bitter feeling people. Overall I think people can be said to be unhappy, or feel anger or despair, bitter is not an adjective I think is used well here.
Most important, why does that matter. I'm not really talking about why you posted it or even the truth or falsity of it. I mean why would it matter?

No. bitter is bitter
cynical is cynical
acrid is a pretty far reach.
I don't think people are so bad about politics. You see how many political shows are on? People are watching that crap. I do too.
Anyway, I'm people too. I know a lot of people as well, but I think Obama is the first I ever heard about making such an arguable generalization.

It's all semantics. The point is that Obama is getting heat over saying that the public is bitter. He's not "elitist" just because he pointed out that people are angry and PO'd and cynical about the way things are going in this country.

Ever hear of a synonym? One of the definitions for "bitter" in the dictionary is, "resentful or cynical."
Edit: And take a look at the political shows out there -- nearly all of them are cynical and full of angry spew about the other side.
The numbers are pretty clear about the sour, angry national mood that exists in the country right now. A lot of pissed off people out there.

I don't even see why he could be elitist for saying that, but I still think it doesn't matter and it's about as news-worthy and a chick having a sex change, keeping her cooch, and being called a pregnant man.

Funny thing is that it just sets Obama up connect with even more voters. The petty Pastor Wright BS gave Obama the opportunity to give one of the best speeches on race we've seen in the last two decades. If this petty "elitism" BS gets pushed into the headlines by Drudge and the rightwing blogs then it's going to give Obama a chance to talk about class and the anger in middle America, which is going to benefit him even more.

Depends on which aspect of politics you're talking about. If you're a working class family who lost your son to the Iraq War, your job to a corporation sending the jobs overseas for cheap labor, and facing foreclosure and no opportunity to refinance because the housing crunch cut deep into your equity, then you have every right to be bitter about the direction of the country.

Defend the accusation that Reagan is a neocon.
I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying that it's not an easy task. You have to stretch "neocon" to near meaninglessness (which has already been done with the gross overuse of the word in the first place) to get there.
Reagan is NOT a Kristol conservative. That much is (Kristol nr6 ) clear.
And, FWIW, I disagree with your other premise, but that's at least a reasonable position. Calling Reagan a neocon is fundamentally the same as calling Michael Moore a "libertarian." Yeah, you can make the argument, but you render the word "libertarian" so inclusive that ANYONE would be a "libertarian" in doing so.

I could kind of understand the Rev Wright stuff, because Wright is a preacher and if you had faith in God or went to church you would better understand how people give trust to their preachers and go to church to learn as well as pray.
Wright, being a spiritual leader, his voice holds sway over his congregation. It's caled indoctrination, but not everyone takes the words and lives by them. My father grew up in a highly racist environment, I grew up with all sorts of racial stuff, but I'm not even close to racist.
I guess the easiest way to put it is if you go somewhere that teaches hatred, there is a good chance you'll come out a hater.
I didn't pay much attention to the Wright crap either. I really don't care what a biggoted preacher has to say. It's only news because the pundits et al. made it news.

And the story was pushed into the mainstream news by the conservative blogs and sites like Drudge. It was a fabricated story in the sense that most Americans didn't care, but was covered because it included sensationalistic soundbites and partisan banter.

Not everybody can afford a $30-35k+hybrid. Not everybody can afford to shop at Trader Joe's or World Market or buy all American products. And not everybody is having mortgage problems because they made poor decisions.
It's perfectly legitimate for people to get pissed that a wealthy person who makes his income on investments pays a tax rate nearly half what ordinary Americans who work on salary pay. It's legitimate to blame Washington politicians for tilting the tax cut to reward oil and energy companies who are making record profits while handing the average American a few hundred bucks. And people should be pissed that the war this administration sold as a cakewalk and would be financed by Iraqi oil has dragged out for six years and will wind up draining $1 trillion (or more) out of our economy and pushed up our deficits.
No doubt poor personal decisions are behind a lot of the problems people experience. But there's plenty of blame that gets laid at the foot of Bush and the Congress, as well.

I don't buy that. In a working class family it seems you energies would be best used in concerning yourself with the family economy than with moping and spending time dwelling on it until you become bitter.
But I'm all about solutions. I look for the solution as soon as I hear the problem. I don't dwell on problems. I don't embrace negatives long enough to be embittered by them. by8v68787

I'm bitter with every administration since Reagan and every congress for decades. I'm sick of spending and the size of government ridiculously growing.
|
The mother###### neocon Reagan played a huge part in creating more hatred of the United States in the world.
|
|
Grandpa Reagan put the NEW(neo) Conservative on the map, their foreign policy agenda has deteriorated our standing in the world arena.
The Michael Moore/Libertarian analogy is WAY off.

|
When they're bitter about all the shit you just mentioned, yet drive a car which uses the fuel we're at war to secure, shop at Wal-Mart for all the cheap shit made in China that's killing manufacturing jobs here, and facing forclosure for living in a house that they had to have "creative financing" to even get into and are in credit card debt for living a lifestyle they couldn't afford, and they're looking to a politician to solve those problems, we'll NEVER get out of this mess.
We don't need "change" from our politicians, we need change from ourselves.
|
|
I think you take it to the extreme.
You don't need to buy a hybrid, but on the same token, Trucks and SUVs are gas guzzlers. -- Get a smaller car.
You don't need to shop at wal-mart, look elsewhere for value, seek out American made goods.
You don't have to jump from one extreme to the other. Exist in the shades of grey. Make compromises.
But also, if you can afford a hybrid or nice smaller car, don't buy a big ass Truck or SUV unless the truck has utility for you (like a consriction worker, etc)
