University of Miami free safety Kenny Phillips and Indiana cornerback Tracy Porter attended Wednesday's practice. Phillips is considered the top free safety in the draft, and Porter is ranked the 11th-best cornerback by NFLDraftScout.com. Porter also has punt return skills; the Falcons are looking to improve their return game.
Datish returns after lost season
Center Doug Datish, one of the Falcons' four sixth-round picks last season, is back on the field after a hard-luck rookie campaign.
During training camp, Datish suffered a dislocated finger on his left hand that required surgery. He then broke his right wrist and was placed on injured reserve for the season.
"I couldn't play with two casts so they threw me on IR," Datish said. "I hadn't missed a game my whole life, so to miss a whole year was pretty bad."
Datish used the time to work on his legs and lower-body strength.
"I couldn't use my arms so all I did was lift my legs all day," he said.
Briefly
Cornerback Brent Grimes stepped in front of a Joey Harrington pass intended for wide receiver Laurent Robinson and made a clean interception.
