He is older than many of the elements in the periodic table. True story.

They kept saying that Reagan was too old too. But clearly no one cared as was demonstrated by the electoral curb stompings he administered in '80 and '84.

Reagan was older in 84 than McCain is now and delivered the biggest azz stomping of the last century:

Then again, Reagan was running against a weak foreign policy and economic recession, coupled with decline in public trust.

Old and wise with a new approach will sell. Old and tied to the failed policies of the current administration, no so much.

McCain's age is an issue only in the sense that people will view him as disconnected with the problems facing the country today. It's not that his age is a detriment per se, it's that his age is symbolic of his major weakness of being connected to the past failures of Bush. His ideas seem outdated and irrelevant to the current problems, IOW.

That's pretty true. McCain is the epitome of the old white dude status quo. The Business As Usual modus operandi has gotten America on the verge of an energy crisis, on the verge of an economic collapes (which is closely tied to the energy crisis), in an illegal and unjustified war, and made us into a laughing stock on the world stage.

So then I should vote for the Libertarian candidate.

Well, ya... A libertarian candidate wouldn't tax us into oblivion either but they also aren't going to win...

or Obama...

Ya that's the most convincing reason to vote for McCain. At least for me. Because it's pretty much the only way to prevent the injection of more taxes and more socialism into our government. That's still not saying that McCain will do much to *reduce* socialism or significantly *reduce* taxation.

McCain isn't winning in my state either, so I may as well vote for who I want in office rather than the lesser of 2 evils.

That`s all the more reason to vote Libertarian

And you should! It's all about priorities.

My priorities are:

1. Keep Obama & Clinton out of the white house because they are the polar opposite of almost everything I believe in.

2. Vote for the candidate that best represents my views.

You would think that order would be reversed but the problem is, there isn't a candidate with a real chance of winning that very closely represents my views... However, there are candidates with a real chance of winning that very closely represent THE OPPOSITE of my views.

Obama and Hillary are on the economic left.
McCain is in the economic middle.
Unfortunately nobody with a real chance of winning is on the economic right :-(

So my voting strategy is: If my state is close (although I doubt SC WOULD be close...), I vote for McCain. If my state is not close, I vote for the guy that best represents my views. That would likely be the Constitution Party candidate.

But it's a safe bet he will continue the current administration's practice of spending us into oblivion.

I do not see either he or Obama making anything resembling a cut in spending so neither will be getting my vote.

I refuse to vote the lesser of 2 evils.

I hope not but he HAS been going against the party line and criticized the overspending of Bush & Congress for a long time:
