I was watching that on the NFL Network as you posted it..seen it earlier too.

Question???

If you`r the Atlanta Falcons?

How do you pass on the best DT prospect in the last 20 years?

The answer..you don`t!

That`s what you call the ultimate ''safe pick.''

Name the last DT who was Superbowl MVP.

I understand what your saying but can you name me the last team to go far into the playoffs without a good D-line?

Lets weigh it out, true it`s a QB league and you have to have a good one.
But Dorsey is slated as a perineal pro-bowler and Ryan has a shot at being just pretty good.

The Falcons have to get this draft right.

You tell me who the ''safe pick'' is if it comes down to Dorsey or Ryan?

Its all a crap shoot. No one is guaranteed cant miss. But would you rather have an All Pro QB or and All Pro DT? Heck, Im not even sure Dorsey is the best DT. Ellis is stronger, faster and has no injury concerns. Dorseys got better moves but isnt that what coaches are for?

BlackTalon - April 26, 2008 03:40 AM (GMT)
The odds for a DT panning out to potential are much greater.
The odds for a 1st round QB are only 50% at hitting.
But yeah, a pro bowl QB is more valuable than a pro bowl DT.

Hell, I can see and play both sides of the argument. b667ur

i hope we take dorsey, but if we take matt i hope he performs well from us. we have a qb friendly offense so that will probably help him if he comes here.

What me worry?

I just enjoy sitting back and watching the sparks fly and hope for the best. 8DRTV75

FWIW, Adam Shefter is going ONLY by what the Falcons FO is saying.

Which means he probably has it exactly wrong. Shefter is USUALLY dead on with his inside info., but in this case (draft day), inside info. is pretty much garbage.

I said in another thread that I see it shaking out where we pick Ryan. But I also think the Rams won't pass on Dorsey. IF they do, I don't see us taking Ryan.

And I think the Rams saying they want Long is a smokescreen and I think the Falcons saying they'll take Ryan is a smokescreen. I think both teams are trying to juice up trade offers for their picks. If Dorsey is there at 3, we take him. If he's not, the Falcons want EVERY other team to think we'll take Matt Ryan so someone desperate for a QB will jump on him. Then, we take their 1st and 2nd and do some damage with picks on the D-line, O-line and one of the 2nd tier QBs.

bossFALCON - April 27, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
well schefter was right again. chris long 2, ryan 3 and dorsey sliding a little. even though we didnt pick dorsey im extremely happy he didnt end up going to NO. that would have been WORSE CASE SCENARIO right there.

GEORGIAfan - April 27, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
why do people call him matt ice, i never understood that. it seems like a dumb nickname. also atleast with this offense we do not need the QB to work that hard( just manage the game, like Eli), because if we had to rely on Matt ryan, then we would be screwed.

Picking Matt ryan over Dorsey still makes me wanna !ff/:

yea i agree, that is one good thing. plus we dont have to throw matt in right away because we will most likely still start redman if he wins the job. i think not starting matt early will help because then baker can get in tune with the rest of the line and we dont have to send baker and ryan out there right away, which could be bad. by the time ryan starts baker will already be used to the rest of the oline and the speed of the game.

i feel the same way Gfan, i didnt like the fact that we passed on dorsey, but if this is the way TD and smith want to build their team then so be it. lets just hope they are building it right.
