My Review of Falcons' Draft...

DISCLAIMER: I'm just a dumb fan who didn't sit in the war room with TD and co. and didn't work with our front office on all the pre-draft plans. I'm just a long time Falcon fan who wants to see this team do well... With that said, here it is, the good, the bad, and the ugly:

THE GOOD:

- We drafted an O-lineman in the 1st round for the first time in 15 years!!! Hooray! That's cause for celebration in itself.

- We got a *potential* franchise QB.

- Sam Baker should be able to start at LT and improve our pass protection on our QB's blind side.

- Curtis Lofton will round out what looks like a nice LB corps with Boley and Brooking. I see Brooking going back to WLB, Boley at SLB, and Lofton at MLB.

- We added a lot of special teams help and secondary depth.

THE BAD

- Is there a new phrase that says "SPECIAL TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS" ? It seems like after the Chevis Jackson pick we stopped picking players who could compete for starting jobs on offense or defense and went with mostly special teams guys... We did this even with some decent DTs and O-linemen still on the board like DTs Pat Sims, Dre Moore, and Red Bryant and O-linemen Carl Nicks Anthony Collins, Tony Hills, and Roy Schuening.

THE UGLY

- Arguably the top defensive player in the entire draft who happens to play a position of need was sitting there available at our pick, and we passed...

- Mike Smith said over and over that this team was going to "run the ball and stop the run" yet we did nothing for offensive line or defensive line to achieve that goal (Baker is known as more of a pass protector than a run blocker).

Plagiarist.

Seriously, it's a sad day in Falcons history when the front office does something that makes me agree with you. ;)

Yes, credit to Ramen for the Special Teams remark. I agreed with it 100%.

I agree with Ramen.

OMG I'm feeling light headed.

Back to the original post, the Ryan pick is starting to grow on me. I had a long discussion with a friend about the pick and he brought up some very good points about Ryan. My biggest concern was him saying he didn't want to be a Falcon. After some thought he might have saw the situation we were in last year when he said it, and it was just a thought he shouldn't have said without thinking more about his control of the situation.

I think the Baker pick was a good choice, but I too wish more linemen ( O and D) would have been picked up this year as I feel this was the year for linemen. But there's always free agency.

Boo fuckin who, we passed on a talented but injury prone DT in the top 3. WTF were we thinking? And we selected the consensus #1 QB after our #1 and #2 left town? STOP THE INSANITY!

Looks like I wasn't the only one boo-hooing about some of the picks:
