Title: Good Christ, what has become of this country...
Description: Actual quote from an essay...

Ramen - April 28, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
Actual excerpt from an essay asking students to analyze gender roles as portrayed in the movie "Steel Magnolias":

"I grew up in south _____, one of the most stereotyped southern places, and I love how the women are viewed. If I married a rich enough husband, I would gladly be a stay at home mother and take care of the kids. I think that would be the easiest, most rewarding job....I also think it is great how the southern women's physical appearance is viewed. I think being pretty for the husband is a way of thanking him for working so hard. Of course there will be those days when getting fixed up is not an option, and in that case the husband should be understanding. But, when people get an image of a southern housewife, it is usually a pretty one. They think a pretty, classy and always have her hair done kind of girl, and I would completely be that."

Good Lord!

Naw, and it wouldn't work for me. My wife & I both have to work for now. But she does a purty good job of "fixin' herself up" anyway. ;)

Something tells me there is a string of abusive relationships in this girl's future.

Although, since I'm the primary breadwinner, I smack the husband around if he skips the gym on a weekday. 8DRTV75
