Title: New products by Kraft
Description: Thought?
Iowahorse - May 2, 2008 06:41 PM (GMT)
I'm helping a buddy out with a marketing preojedt. These are all actual new products from Kraft. What ones would you be most likely to try? What ones do you think are most likely to succeed or fail and why? Any stick out as just stupid?
• • Cool Whip aerosol. Kraft hopes the canned product will appeal to consumers who desire one or two servings but who don't want to open a full tub of the non-dairy dessert topping.
• • Jell-O pudding mixes in single-serve packets.
• • Bagelfuls cream cheese stuffed bagel rolls. It's the first item to carry the Kraft name in the freezer section.
• • Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers in three cheddar flavors.
• • Reformulated and packaged Kraft salad dressings and Oscar Mayer hot dogs.
• • Nabisco Newtons Fruit Crisp Bars.
• • Oscar Mayer shaved meats in single serve containers.
• • DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen single-serve pizzas.
• • Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts.
• • Nabisco brand's Nilla Cakesters snack cake, a market Kraft entered last year with an Oreo version.

That's the only one on the list I'd buy. I love me some roasted peanuts.
Not that it influences anyone else, but I'm kind of against any "single serving" gimmick. It may be more convenient, but it's several times more packaging than the bulk option. Each little serving has to be wrapped and boxed on it's own.

To me this is just dumb. Waste of packaging and resources that appeals only to the truly lazy and inept carnivore.
I rank it up there with other dumb ideas that support the truly lazy, like pre-chopped ham, salad in a bag, pre-boiled and peeled, (and sometimes even sliced) hard boiled eggs etc.

• • Cool Whip aerosol. If it has no CFCs I would hope it would catch on. Beyond my main motive (which is environmental and includes making less plastic and lanfill space) a can is much easier to store--it takes up less horizonal space. It's resistant to drops, no cap to worry about not getting on all the way and bugs or flies getting in. Not only that, it's more conviennt: Grab a can and apply vs. opening a tub with both hands getting a spoon to dollup the shit, and ending up having to was the spoon later. Cans keep cooler longer than plastic too.
(that's his entire paper right there)
• • Jell-O pudding mixes in single-serve packets. No way to I eat one serving of jello. Might be ok for kids to make on their own or for moms. Kind of would depend on the price. Lot of companies make single serv shit to jack up the price for the same amount of product and justify higher prices because their convienient. I really don't see how single serv packs are more convienent. Only real good reason I think this would succeed if because then you wouldn't have a big bowl of jello in the fridge for a day or two or three taking up space
• • Bagelfuls cream cheese stuffed bagel rolls. It's the first item to carry the Kraft name in the freezer section. I think it is a sucky idea. I use to work making premium bagels and I've eatten bagels for a long time. Putting chease on a bagel is nothing. What if I want more cream cheese or less? I'd be stuck with whatever they give me. You also can't make a bagel sandwich or cheeses in them. Kid item. Like hot pockets.
• • Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers in three cheddar flavors. You mean to tell me there isn't 3 flavored cheddar cheese and mac already? Kraft Mac and cheese sucks anyway. Let them do whatever to mask the suckiness of their product.
• • Reformulated and packaged Kraft salad dressings and Oscar Mayer hot dogs. Reformulated how?
• • Nabisco Newtons Fruit Crisp Bars. I'd hit it
• • Oscar Mayer shaved meats in single serve containers. No, stupid idea. Make the container they come in better at keeping out air. Put some kind of pump on it so you can vac-u-seal it or some shit. Or do you mean like the little bags of stuff like ham, turkey, etc? I assumed since it's new that you meant one big pack filled with little packs. If you mean like the shaved meats in bags for like 79 cents, I would have thought they'd already be doing that.
• • DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen single-serve pizzas. Why not? Everyone else has little pizza's "Califonia Kitchen" doesn't impress me, Doesn't even sound good.
• • Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts. Id try it. I'm not sure if they're like kettle corn, but I like peanuts.
• • Nabisco brand's Nilla Cakesters snack cake, a market Kraft entered last year with an Oreo version. Those things are stupid. Have you tried one? The suck.

I would TRY this, but Cool Whip >>>> Redi-Whip in the aerosol can. If it didn't taste the same, I probably would go back to tubs.
• • Jell-O pudding mixes in single-serve packets.
My son would probably like this. He likes to "fix" things in the kitchen, and if the cost was the same or less, and it saved plastic from going in the landfill then this might be good.
• • Bagelfuls cream cheese stuffed bagel rolls. It's the first item to carry the Kraft name in the freezer section.
Saw this advertised on TV the other day from somebody, and my first initial thought was who eats bagels on a subway? (the gist of the commercial - portability) Since when did we need all our food wrapped up in flour based food anyway? Practical for the car. I can't see me eating in front of a ton of people on public transportation though. Not sure why. Don't mind restaurants w/people in them. It's just different for some reason.
• • Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers in three cheddar flavors.
Mac & Cheese as a cracker? Doesn't sound so good to me.
• • Reformulated and packaged Kraft salad dressings and Oscar Mayer hot dogs.
iy88767
• • Nabisco Newtons Fruit Crisp Bars.
Might try them. Like fig Newtons, but this doesn't sound all that appealing
• • Oscar Mayer shaved meats in single serve containers.
No use for this.
• • DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen single-serve pizzas.
Microwaveable might be good for a take to work lunch. These single-serve things don't always fill me up though. Another food that would probalby be better for my kid.
• • Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts.
Definitely try those. I love nuts. (no h0m0)
• • Nabisco brand's Nilla Cakesters snack cake, a market Kraft entered last year with an Oreo version.
Like Little Debbie cakes? Not sure what this is exactly, but Oreo in a "cake" form doesn't sound that great to me.

I hate that salad in a bag crap. The old lady buy that sht for some reason. Is it really that hard to cut off a few pieces of lettuce + they stay fresh longer.

That and if you knew the types of bacteria and critters found in those and how often it happens you'd swear off them for life.
BnB - May 3, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
My wife buys that stuff. As long as anyone else but me cooks I'm cool with critters and bacteria. Just sort of a philosophy I have.

• • Cool Whip aerosol. Kraft hopes the canned product will appeal to consumers who desire one or two servings but who don't want to open a full tub of the non-dairy dessert topping.
Good idea if it still tastes like cool whip.
• • Jell-O pudding mixes in single-serve packets.
Like most people said, it's a good idea for kids, but that's it.
• • Bagelfuls cream cheese stuffed bagel rolls. It's the first item to carry the Kraft name in the freezer section.
Bad idea. I understand products for people on the go who don't have time to cook something, but just how long does it take to put a bagel in the toaster and spread cream cheese on it? You are either going to have to microwave or bake these things and they will probably have more calories than an actual bagel and not save you much if any time. I'm sure they will have different flavors, but cream cheese comes in different flavors as well as bagels.
• • Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Crackers in three cheddar flavors.
My guess is that they will just be just another gimick in the already long list of crackers like Dorritos and Peter Pan brands where they cost more and don't really taste any better than cheaper brands like Lance.
• • Reformulated and packaged Kraft salad dressings and Oscar Mayer hot dogs.
Would actually have to see them to know what they are talking about.
• • Nabisco Newtons Fruit Crisp Bars.
Would probably try them.
• • Oscar Mayer shaved meats in single serve containers.
Depends on what they mean. If it means buying one serving at a time, then bad idea. You could go to the deli and get enough for one sandwich probably cheaper. If it's a container with multiple single servings, sure they would stay fresher longer, but would depend on how easy those things will be to open.
• • DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen single-serve pizzas.
Good idea for a quick lunch or for kids. Unless they are a bottomless pit and you would have to end up cooking a full size pizza just to fill them up.
• • Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts.
Sounds good. Would probably try them.
• • Nabisco brand's Nilla Cakesters snack cake, a market Kraft entered last year with an Oreo version.
The Oreo snack cakes aren't bad, so probably a good idea.
That will be $124.35 for the time I took to give my opinions.

If the flavor is the same, I might buy this one. I rarely use it, and never use an entire tub unless I'm making something for a group.
QUOTE
• • Jell-O pudding mixes in single-serve packets.
I'm not really into single-serving packaging - it's just too wasteful. Pudding and Jello aren't things I often make, but when I do, I repackage them myself. Might as well put the 80 pieces of mini-tupperware to use.
QUOTE
• • Bagelfuls cream cheese stuffed bagel rolls. It's the first item to carry the Kraft name in the freezer section.
Sounds like a convenient idea on the surface, but on the rare occasion I have a bagel, it better be swimming in luscious cream cheese. I can't imagine thawed, cooked cream cheese as tasty.

Flavored crackers = non-food.

Reformulated, as in, *without* the lips and ***holes?
QUOTE
• • Nabisco Newtons Fruit Crisp Bars.
I'd have to see them, but I might try them.
QUOTE
• • Oscar Mayer shaved meats in single serve containers.
Why not ask for less meat at the deli? Or, if you buy prepackaged, separate it at home.
QUOTE
• • DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen single-serve pizzas. • • Planters Kettle Roasted Peanuts. |
I can live with both of these.

Whaaa?? I'm not a huge fan of processed baked goods. My versions are much tastier, if I do say so myself. 678hnn77

The concept of a bagel-on-the-go makes sense, but as someone else pointed out, it still needs to be cooked. If I'm in that much of a hurry, I can grab a protein shake, a banana, or just eat a bagel cold. The stuffed bagel will probably still be messy...the cream cheese will just ooze in a different direction. But I'm sure people will still buy it...the same ones who buy Lunchables.
BlackTalon - May 5, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
I tried those bagles, the regular and wheat.
Not too bad for a grab, heat and go snack in the morning.

Why do kids like those Lunchables anyway? I could eat 4 of those and not be full. But my son is always wanting to get them at the grocery store. He rarely gets his way on that one.

Yeah, unfortunately, he watches other stuff that's not so tame. We haven't quite mastered the whole balance thing w/being TV cops w/him yet. He likes a lot of superhero, action cartoons & is always wanting to act out the fighting w/me.
I'll only watch Spongebob & one or two others w/him, unless he decides we can go old school and watch The Flintstones or old Warner Bros. or something like that. I have done my best to introduce him to the wonder of Bugs Bunny every chance I get - but I don't think he gets it.
