Title: Wright is much ado about nothing...
Description: ...hasn't significantly affected Obama.

Caution is warranted when asking people to list the reasons for their behavior. People are notoriously bad at reporting the real reasons behind their motives--people will SAY they vote based on policy stances of candidates even if issues have a small effect. So you can't trust results from the poll questions asking people if they will base their vote on Wright.

The better way to assess attitudes is to look at the other questions about Obama's ability to make tough choices, whether he shares Wright's views, and whether people think Obama loves America more than Wright. Also look at how little change there's been on Obama's personal ratings. Not much has changed.

It may have affected Indiana and North Carolina races at the margins, but all the talk about the Wright issue "sinking" Obama's candidacy is just plain wrong. Plus, given all the airplay this has gotten, Obama is more immunized from the issue if GOPers try to run ads in November using Wright.

I agree, the Wright issue is the wrong issue.

Then why start a thread about it?

Its a symptom, not a problem.

Why do people belittle themselves and insult rational thinking by even talking about this guy? I don't know shit about him and very little about what he says because I don't watch all the tv news stories about him, I don't read articles about him, no way will I waste time looking at and of what he says on youtube. He's nothing, a non issue. If you're on either side of this guy, either pro or con, politics is a game to you.

You're fucked.

As Doc would say, "True story"

Because it is dominating the news coverage of the presidential race. A lot of people, I believe you included, were saying that Wright would destroy Obama's candidacy. Now it looks like all the media attention is on an issue that most people think is simply irrelevant.

The "conventional wisdom" has been that this will have a major influence on the election, and obviously that "conventional wisdom" is wrong.
