Title: Harrassment

falconfoozball - May 9, 2008 08:38 PM (GMT)
I'm taking my req. Sexual Harrasment courses for work. This is my 2nd or 3rd different training on this topic. Can I just say, "The nanny state has arrived in Corp. America." ?

Thank you. That is all.

Jane sees Michael, an employee she supervises, approach Robin, another employee, at her desk in the office. In polite, unassuming language Michael asks, “Robin, would you like to try that new Chinese restaurant Friday night?”

Has Michael crossed the line?

Answer: Yes

Although some employers have specific policies regarding dating in the workplace, assuming no such policy exists, Michael's behavior is appropriate. Michael’s request is not conduct of a sexual nature. It’s also not something a reasonable woman would find offensive.

This is so typical of my company... They ask a question. Then give you the "correct" answer. And then go on to explain why you were correct in answering it "wrong".... ????!!??? Can somebody tell me how this guy crossed the line??? 6g65dd 6g65dd 6g65dd

haha, good one. :)

But did you get the irony in the question? Yes, was the answer meaning he crossed the line, but his behaviour was totally appropriate? This is an online course, and I'm only about 1/2 way through 379 screens. I've found 4 questions like the one above that are more or less "trick" questions. You CAN NOT get them right.

I've worked at this place for almost a dozen years. While some things have gotten better, mostly they've just succeeded at creating a corporate culture of Abbot and Costello routines. At first, I used to try to respectfully and politely point out the folly when finding things like this. But after a while, I realized I was being viewed as a malcontent and a troublemaker, instead of someone who was really just trying to help us become the best that we could be. About 3-4 years ago, I just stopped saying anything. It doesn't do any good, and they just keep trading one bozo for another and putting them in leadership positions.

Today we had a conference call, and I wrote down all the buzzwords I heard. 8 in all in 45 minutes. I could've kicked ass at Buzzword Bingo. :P

I think your company wants you to know their policy, and that policy is co-workers cannot date. That's the best reasoning I can come up with and I can't think of nothing funny or sexual, except to add to Jdaves post and say like uranus.

RobSalvador - May 10, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
Well first off you are doing it all wrong. If she catches you staring ask if she wants to stay late and play a little grab ass in the hallway. Then you can ask her to breakfast, not dinner. But if she rebuffs your invitations, Do NOT shoot rubber bands at her Boobies, even if she is letting them hang out. That WILL get you a meeting with HR and kill all advancement potential even if they fire the whore. Trust me on this one.

TS.

Ok, b4 this thread degenerates any further... in case my wifey is reading the boards... I need to make it clear that I am NOT trying to date, flirt with, or otherwise "do" anyone that I work with.

Ty - My co. does not prohibit dating coworkers, as long as there is not a direct line of supervision either way. They may frown on it, but the only thing that is prohibitied is mgr. to subordinate of vice/versa.

Rob - LMAO @ the TS!!! I'd almost bet that it is...

Btw, wifey had a pretty good line about all this... "They're just trying to do the "CYA" on this one. Nothing a good pair of underpants wouldn't do for them, but they're just too stupid to realize it." :D

It also said "assumig the placehad a policy against workers dating."

So if there was such a policy he crossed the line by not sticking to the policy.

Nope. That may be what they meant to say, but it said "assuming no such policy exists".

Sad thing is, I see stuff written like that all the time w/my company. So even though this one was on me... it's still typical of the Abbott & Costello style of running a corporation. b667ur

Just do what I did...quit...ur, I mean, "Retire"...There are some that scoff at me and say that I didn't retire so much as I quit without a backup plan. Personally, I like to think of it as Employmently Challenged...or, that I'm simply the undiscovered solution for another company's organizational dilema... :) :P

I'm looking now. Pouring my resume a "freshy", so to speak. I don't like being "employment challenged" so I'm trying to find a place to go before I leave this job. We can't really afford to miss any paychecks at the moment.

It's offensive b/c Chinese is the cheapest cuisine. nr6

Seriously, assuming there is no policy forbidding it, and the guy isn't her superior, people and companies need to lighten up on this stuff. If a friend ever told me she was upset b/c a (single) guy at work asked her out, I would consider ending the friendship. Or I would rail on her with two hours of my stories, then ask what made her so weak.
